President Bush retains the power to pardon any number of people responsible for the horrific acts committed in the “war on terror.” That means those who might have participated in torture, indefinite detention without charge or trial, the CIA’s secret detention program, and the architect of it all, Mr. Rumsfeld.
Just as important as accountability, is the truth about human rights abuses. The American people have a right to know what abusive, unjust actions were taken in their name. An independent commission of inquiry should be established to tell this sad chapter in U.S. history.
President Bush still has a chance to do the right thing. Nine human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have called on the president to reject immunity for crimes committed in the “war on terror.” I urge him to heed the calls, and set the stage for the United States to counter terror with justice, not abuse. He has an opportunity to repair our soiled image among the nations of the world and regain our standing as a leader in human rights.
Sincerely,

Do you really believe we live in a fantasy world? Do you really think the terrorists want to make friends?
I am amazed at your stupidity.
in the Oval Office alongside the Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas] "people must recognize that we have made a good deal of progress."
So c'mon, lighten up, and admit you voted for and believed in a lemming.
I for one feel that anything and everything needed to stop these non Christian hordes that are hiding under the banner of extreme Muslim radicals; should be used, to protect us here at home. They know this country is filled with bleeding heart liberals like you, and they laugh as they kill and torture others, since your kind allowed them to go free to continue their war against Christian people.
You speak of human rights? Where have you ever seen the terrorists adhere to human rights? If you so strongly feel your country has a soiled reputation, why not pack up your entire family and move to the Middle East? I am sure they will welcome you with open arms and provide you training in their human rights programs, and at the same time you will be indoctrinated in their way of what is right and wrong.
One other thing this election has proven, Republican voters want President Elect Obama to succeed. Unlike Dems, we realize if the President succeeds, we all do. The last 8 years of a press working everyday to tear down anything from the success against terrorism to the economy has finally worked. The economy is in shambles - and the successes against terrorist are ignored. Where is the anger at Barney Frank?
The good thing is - I believe people like Buffalo will be disappointed in the next four years - Obama has already realized - American's are truly in the middle - not extreme left or right.
