No need for a third time.
The second time was the charm for Ben Jeffers.
Ben Jeffers, a 2005 Madison County graduate, was picked up in the 22nd round (668th pick) by the Milwaukee and has signed with Brewers.
“I’m excited,” he said Tuesday. “I’m ready to get started.”
Jeffers was grabbed in the 44th round by Atlanta out of Madison County High Schoolin 2005, but opted to pitch in college.
Three years later, Jeffers has signed with the Brewers for $80,000.
He’ll fly out to Phoenix where he’ll go to a mini camp. From there, he’ll either be assigned to Montana for Minor League ball or stay in Arizona for Rookie League.
Jeffers, who started his college career at UGA, just graduated from Chipola Junior College in Florida where he went 3-0 with a 3.77 ERA this past year.
Jeffers, who’s comeback from Tommy John surgery, has his velocity back up to 92 to 94 mph, which he said was about what he was clocking before the injury.
“About the middle of the year on is when I came on strong and I finally got my velocity back,” he said. “It’s feeling good right now.”
The right hander started as a freshman at Madison County and helped lead the Raiders to three state playoff appearances during his prep career.
