Hull’s Joshua Fields further cemented his place in University of Georgia baseball lore.
The senior flame-thrower protected a one-run lead in the ninth inning Monday night as Georgia downed traditional power Stanford, 4-3, in the second round of the winners’ bracket in the College World Series.
Fields hit a batter and walked during the inning, but was able to force a double play to end the game for his 17th save.
Fields, a first-round draft pick by the Seattle Mariners, upped his career total to an SEC-best 40 saves.
Fields, who grew up in Madison County but attended Prince Avenue Christian School, is part of a Bulldog bullpen which has only surrendered one run in 11 innings work at the CWS in Omaha, Neb.
Georgia plays Friday in the third round of the winners bracket at 2 p.m.
