Madison County commissioners agreed Monday to maintain a contract with Whitworth Detention Center out of Hartwell for two inmate work crews, who pick up trash along county roads and county facilities.
They also pick up recyclable items for the county school system. The board considered eliminating one of the crews as a cost-cutting measure, but the group noted that the inmates work for pennies on the hour and that finding cheaper labor for necessary trash pickup jobs would not be easy.
The BOC agreed to keep the current $39,500 contract for crews at least through the end of the fiscal year, which runs through June.
I honestly don't believe that, because I honor the Constitution of the United States and the basic civil rights that it guarantees, I am a liberal Democrat.
Because you refuse to honor the Constitution of the United States, does that automatically make you a Facist?
Whatever I am, liberal Democrat or Conservative, it is always better than what you are - a reactionary blitering idiot.
a job at the Whitworth Detention Center !
If you think it "should be" punishment for the crime, write your Congressmen. It honestly doen't take a lot of "nerve" to write onto the blogs about these news stories - especially when people like you have such inane ideas about right and wrong.
I don't know who you "probably are"... but I haven't had the time to sit around the Breadbasket with you. The only time I will tell you that you are wrong.. is when you are wrong. Sometimes the truth hurts, I suppose.
property while children are present.
Do they check to see if these inmates are child molesters
or sex offenders before they allow them to be on school
property?
I understand these are trustees, but at some point and
time sex offenders become trustees too.
