Tom Joiner stepped down as Madison County’s Industrial Authority chairman Monday night, citing health reasons. However, he will remain a member of the authority.
The industrial authority named Bruce Azevedo as the new IDA chairman and Gerry Burdette as the group’s new treasurer.
“You have been a great chairman,” IDA member Roger Tench told Joiner, adding that he appreciated the hours Joiner put into the job.
IDA Executive Director Marvin White said Joiner approached him about a year and a half ago, saying he wanted to resign as chairman, but White said there the authority had a number of projects in the works and that Joiner agreed to continue leading the group.
“He’s always done what was needed to get the work done,” said White.
The executive director said Joiner and the IDA have done a great service for Madison County in establishing county water services.
“This group has made history in Madison County,” said White. “It is something that should have been done 30 or 40 years ago.”
