County industrial authority executive director Marvin White said Monday night that he received a letter from the county school board, approving the IDA’s offer of $6,500 an acre for land near Hull-Sanford Elementary School.
The 8-10 acres, which is not road-front property, will be used for drip fields for the IDA’s commercial sewer system, which is expected to go on-line in early 2009. The sewer system is intended to attract businesses to the area and boost the county’s tax base.
The IDA also agreed Monday to provide temporary watering assistance at the new Madison County Middle School off Hwy. 172 so the school system can water sod at MCMS over the summer. Under a previously established contract, the authority provides up to 90,000 gallons of water per month to Hull-Sanford Elementary School. The authority agreed to allow the 90,000-gallon per month contractual agreement to be applied to the new MCMS during the summer months until the school’s irrigation wells are established.
In a separate matter Monday, White said he was contacted by Commissioner John Pethel about providing water to the the Harrison Fire Department. He said the department is in need of a stable water source and noted that the department is about 2.9 miles from Royston. White said he will submit a request to the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority requesting a water line from Royston to the fire department.
Utility director Steve Shaw noted that the IDA sold 4.4 million gallons of water in May, bringing in roughly $26,000, up $7,000 from the previous month. He said county water customers at odd-numbered residences can water lawns from midnight to 10 a.m. on Thursday and Sunday, while residents of even-numbered homes can water their lawns during the same hours on Wednesday and Saturday.
