In past years, Madison County has fielded American and National League squads in certain age groups.
Chuck Branson of Madison County Little League explained that Madison County Little League had been required to have two charters under one board of directors due to the population of the county.
That meant splitting some all-star age groups into American and National League teams.
But changes made by Little League International have allowed for unified Madison County all-star teams this summer.
“We have been trying to get permission to go to only one charter,” Branson said in an email. “We were finally given permission this year to go to one charter.”
Branson said Madison County Little League will remain under one charter until participation grows to the point were Little League International requires two leagues again.
Madison County will field five all-star baseball teams and three softball teams in upcoming District 7 play.
The 7-and-8-year-old boys all-star team has already concluded its season.
Participation was down slightly this year as Madison County Little League will field one less team this year than last.
