Hull’s Joshua Fields notched his 18th save in gripping fashion, preserving a 7-6 lead in the ninth inning in Georgia’s come-from-behind win Monday over Fresno State in the College World Series finals in Omaha, Neb.
Georgia then lost 19-10 on Tuesday.
Fields worked a perfect inning Monday against Fresno State for the save, which tied him for the NCAA lead. It was Fields’ 41st save, the most ever by an SEC pitcher.
Fields’ crisp performance came after a shaky outing in a non-save situation Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 10-8 win over Stanford. The Seattle Mariners’ first-round draft pick gave up four runs before recording the final out in the Bulldog’s third win at the CWS.
But Fields was on his game Monday behind his sharp fast ball and nasty curve.
After giving up a long fly-ball out for the first out in the ninth, Fields followed with a strikeout and then forced a pop-up to end the game.
Fields entered the game after Georgia rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead.
