Madison County’s overall land value is expected to slip by roughly $30 million in 2008.
Board of assessor member Jim Escoe, a candidate for the county commissioners’ District 5 seat, announced at Tuesday night’s political forum at Madison County High School that the county digest will be down by roughly $30 million this year.
“The decrease means we’re either going to have to cut the budget or raise the millage rate,” he said.
Commission chairman Wesley Nash and District 5 commissioner Bruce Scogin also informed the crowd that the digest will likely be down this year.
The county board of assessors has not approved this year’s assessments. And the county board of commissioners will hold a called meeting with the board of assessors and chief appraiser James Flynt at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, in the county government complex to address the digest situation.
