Man charged with assault, terroristic threats
A Commerce man was arrested on family violence charges recently after he allegedly struck and attempted to stab his live-in girlfriend.
Barney Shane Richey, 37, of 113 Barnes Road, was charged with one count each of aggravated assault FVA, battery FVA and terroristic threats and acts.
According to the incident report, Deputy Tommy Williams spoke with Richey’s girlfriend, who said that Richey started to argue with her while she was attempting to eat. She stated that he struck her in the head with his fist and picked her up by her neck, throwing her against the wall. As she attempted to get away, he pulled a knife on her and tried to stab her. She then reportedly ran outside, where he caught up with her and threw her to the ground and began beating her, causing injuries to her head and legs. The woman also stated that Richey threatened to burn her home down during the incident. Deputy Williams took pictures of the woman’s injuries and placed Richey under arrest.
In another arrest, Armondo Frank Melhorn Jr., 23, 602 Kellogg Drive, Colbert, was charged with multiple traffic violations, including failure to stop for a stop sign, open container, driving with no license on person, speeding, DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude and two counts of turning position signals required.
According to the incident report, Lt. Jeff Vaughn responded to the Roger’s Mill Road area to look for a black Acura traveling at a high rate of speed. Vaughn met the Acura and clocked its speed at 69 mph in a 45 mph zone. The deputy began to pursue the vehicle with lights and siren, but it failed to stop, running through a red light on Hwy. 98 before turning onto Peach Orchard Road. Vaughn then managed to get ahead of the Acura, and Lt. John Smith came up from behind and blocked the vehicle from the rear with his patrol car. Melhorn was taken out of the car and handcuffed without incident, according to the report.
In another arrest, an Elberton man was arrested last week on pedestrian under the influence of drugs charges after a deputy found him pushing his bicycle along Waggoner’s Grove Church Road.
Dallas Melvin Jones, 48, 1055 Country Meadow Lane, appeared to be unsteady on his feet and did not acknowledge the patrol car as it came up behind him, according to the incident report filed by Deputy Michael Free.
As Deputy Free was talking to Jones, he noted that his eyes were glassy and his speech slurred, along with a strong smell of alcohol coming from his person. He was transported to the jail for processing.

I happen to be a Madison County resident, taxpayer, homeowner & voter SO...No, I will not shut up nor will I be moving anytime soon!!!!!! I like it here. However, I will continue to read & comment on issues of my choosing. WHY?? Because it's my GOD GIVEN RIGHT!! What a great country, the US of A, that allows you the right to your opinion. Your posting history says it all. If you can't handle the fact that you may not be right all the time or everybody doesn't agree w/ you, that's your problem.
Let me say again - I WOULDN'T work for the current administration. I don't agree w/ the way my tax dollars are being used. I don't appreciate the waste, abuse & self serving leadership. These are the facts as I see them. IS THIS CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YA????????
You were putting down Kip and the deputys so you don't care for them to much do you?
And it's not that everyone has to agree with me or I get mad. It's your opinion and opinions are like butt holes everyones got one and there all different. I don't care who you like you could have voted for Obama I didn't but he is President now so I said I would give him a chance.
I'M NOT SAYING YOU BUT ALOT OF PEOPLE AIN'T GIVING kIP A CHANCE.I say give a man the chance to do a good job or bad then put him down if he screws up.
Once again, please don't "assume" I don't like the "deputIES". I've met many of them over the years and respect the job they do. Especially the ones that earn their paycheck. I spoke of ONE deputy regarding an incident that was in the paper but not online yet posted in the Madison Living online. Yes, my opinion -great USA. There are many things I love about MC, that's why I moved here, that's why I'm not leaving. Kip Thomas just isn't one of them. That IS based on Kips "screw ups" -your words.
Instead of being a loud Kip cheerleader maybe you should be still & silent so you can get the big picture.
Sentence 2 - should have read "anything the Administration does."
Sentence 3 - newspaper anymore.
Administration is misspelled.
Did you ride the short bus to school?
Did you understand what I was saying? And don't no more and anymore mean the same thing?
Didn't know I needed to send my comments to you and let you proof read and correct them before I posted them.
And no I did not ride the short bus to school I rode a big yeller bus.
O.h.no he gonna say I started a sentence with And,also he gonna say I used gonna and should have used going and also misspelled yellow but HA the jokes on you I meant to cause that be tthe way I talk so.
