Woman charged with DUI

Cassandra Blake Huff, 20, of 1775 Sorrow Patterson Road, was charged with one count of DUI/drugs.

According to the incident report, Lt. Jeff Vaughn responded to Hwy. 98 in reference to a possible drunk driver. The caller advised that they followed the vehicle from the Ila area and that the driver, later identified as Huff, was running off the road and had almost wrecked several times. After stopping the vehicle, Lt. Vaughn noticed that Huff was very unsteady on her feet as she got out. She told the deputy that she had taken Xanax the day before, but was not currently under the influence of any medication.

However, she failed the standard sobriety tests and Vaughn reportedly found a bottle of Xanax pills on her person. The prescription was for 60 and filled two days prior, but there were only 25 pills in the bottle, the deputy noted. She was taken to the Madison County Jail for booking.

In another arrest involving drugs, Dustin Albert Edwards, 19, of 74 Buddy Moore Road, Lot 37, Colbert, was charged with possession of hydrocodone, obstruction of an officer, drugs to be kept in original container and giving false information or false name to a police officer.

According to the incident report, Deputy Mark Jerome was waiting to serve a warrant at Diamond Hill Grocery when he observed a man (Edwards) walking towards a car he had been watching in the parking lot. As Jerome pulled up behind Edwards, he reportedly started to walk faster and shoved something in his mouth. Jerome told him to spit whatever was in his mouth out and he complied, spitting out pink colored pills. Edwards was placed on the ground under arrest and handcuffed before Jerome recovered the pills, which Edwards initially told him were Tylenol. He later admitted the pills were Lortab (hydrocodone), a controlled substance. Jerome charged him with the previously listed charges and took him to the Madison County Jail for booking.

•Harley Dwayne Jones, 22, 215 Bumpy Road, Royston, probation violation.

•David Alexander Ledbetter, 26, 1253 Crawford W. Long Street, Danielsville, theft by taking motor vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, speeding, DUI, driving while license withdrawn and open container in vehicle.

•Phillip Anthony Nelms, 30, P.O. Box 107, Lexington, two counts of forgery in the first degree and identity fraud.

•Jennifer Hall Patton, 35, 568 Chandler Road, Hull, failure to appear (original charge: theft by taking).

•Rebecca Ann Ross, 28, 1501 Meadows Lane, Vidalia, driving while license withdrawn suspended or revoked, suspended registration, operation of a vehicle with improper license plate and failure to appear.
