A Danielsville man was seriously injured during a diving accident on the Hudson River June 17.
According to EMS reports, Travis Adams, 34, dove off a dock on Harry Paul Road into shallow water around 8 p.m., striking his head. EMS director Dwayne Patton said EMS received the call at 8:01 p.m. and responded to the scene along with other emergency personnel.
Adams was immobilized while still in the water to prevent further injury and an Emory Life Flight helicopter transported him to Grady Healthcare in Atlanta, Patton said.
According to family friends, Adams is paralyzed from the chest down with only minimal nerve response in his arms and remains in intensive care at Grady Healthcare, with hopes to be transferred soon to Shepard Spinal Center in Atlanta for further treatment.
“The doctors are hopeful that with proper rehabilitation, Travis can regain function to his arms,” friend Lucinda Wiseman said. “This is why the benefit funds are so critical for him.”
In order to assist in his recovery, two funds have been established for he and his wife, Alisha Davis Adams. Merchant’s and Farmer’s Bank is accepting donations to the Travis Adams Benefit Fund, while the Travis L. Adams Fund has been set up at local BB&T branches.
“Your contribution to either fund will be greatly appreciated as well as your thoughts and prayers,” fund organizers said.
In addition, a “Fishless” Benefit Bass Tournament for Adams has been set for July 25, with weigh-in beginning at 4 p.m. at the Madison County Recreation Department. For details, contact Bond’s Marine at 706-795-0951 or Dan at 706-716-0284.
A raffle will also be held during this event, organizers said.
If you can't see all the way to the bottom, you don't know what is in there. Large trees and boulders are constantly moved about in the river, so the fact that you did it and got away with it last year or yesterday does not mean you will be safe.
Hope the gentleman has a full recovery, but I don't want to be reading this same article with a different name EVER.
we got there I went to the middle of the bridge and looked over and didn't
see nothing so I climbed up on the
rail and dove off. I felt good until I hit the water and a log had been
washed down stream and got hung up where I went in the water at I hit the
log face first. It broke my nose, busted
my forehead open, and tore alot of skin
from my face. It knocked me out and some friends jumped in to save me.When
they got me out and came back too I
couldn't feel my legs but the feeling
came back a couple hours later and I
learned my lesson. Now I don't dive unless it's in a swimming pool and they have a diving board.
I figure I brought alot of my problems on my self from doing stupid stuff from the diving accident when I was about 17 to a car wreck when I was 25 that was supposed to paralyze me but I had a willingness to keep going so don't never let no one tell you that you can't do something.
