There are some well-worn photographer’s spots in Madison County. For instance, I’ve snapped the camera trigger numerous times from every angle of the old courthouse to illustrate a variety of stories. Madison County’s softball team came out on the short end of an epic 12-inning battle with Union Grove Thursday night in the Class AAAA state softball tournament. Madison County’s Jake Westbrook is now a World Series champion.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers in game seven of the World Series 6-2 Friday night.

While St. Louis captured the title in the seventh game, the sixth game will go down in history as perhaps the greatest World Series game of all time. And Madison County’s Westbrook was the winning pitcher Thursday, holding the Rangers scoreless in the top of the eleventh, before David Freese ripped the game-winning home run in the bottom of the eleventh.

Madison County (2-7) struck first against Cedar Shoals Friday, but the visiting Jaguars scored five rushing touchdowns en route to a 35-18 victory. Trae Burton scored two touchdowns for Madison County on runs of 1 and 3 yards, while Alex Jordan hit Keidrick Curry for a touchdown pass of 14 yards.
