Two armed robberies were reported in Madison County recently
In the first, Jai’s Country Corner on Hwy. 106 South was robbed by a lone white male Aug. 27.
According to the incident report from the county sheriff’s department, a store clerk at Jai’s reported that he heard a knock on the outside of the store around 8:42 p.m. y and went outside to see who was knocking. As he went around the side, a white male pointed a black automatic pistol at him and ordered him back inside the store. The man then reportedly took $400 in cash, a cell phone, four cartons of cigarettes and a carton of cigars. The clerk said the man, described as 6’2”, approximately 300 pounds and wearing a Halloween skull mask became increasingly nervous and left the store walking west on Hanley Road.
In the second armed robbery, Deputy Klint Segars was dispatched to Chandler Road where he met with man and a woman who said that the man’s truck had been stolen by two unknown black males.
According to the incident report, the woman said her vehicle broke down on Burke Leachman Road and that she called the man to help her. As they were putting fuel in the vehicle, two men crossed a nearby fence and struck the man on his head twice. The woman stated the men used some type of stick or pipe to strike him with. They reportedly shoved her to the ground, taking her purse and the man’s wallet. The men then jumped in the man’s black four-door Dodge Dakota with a drive-out tag and left the scene.
EMS was called to take the male victim to Athens Regional for the large laceration on his head.
