A Bowman woman was charged with driving under the influence after a deputy was dispatched to Hwy. 172 and Hwy. 98 (Paoli Junction) about a reckless driver.
Maria Annette Buffington, 36, 150 East Church Street, was charged with one count each of DUI and improper passing.
Deputy Mark Jerome followed Buffington’s vehicle across Hwy. 98 onto Hwy. 172 towards Elbert County and noted that the vehicle could not maintain lane. When Deputy Jerome activated his blue lights, the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road. The driver, Buffington, stated that she had spilled her boiled peanuts in her lap. Deputy Jerome noted that there was no smell of alcohol, though her speech was slurred and her eyes were pinpointed.
