I pleaded with the commission chairman and previous district commissioners for the past 8 to 10 years to get these two roads paved. All of this was done in vain because the commission chairman kept telling me there was no money to pave these roads and all the while other roads in the county were being paved.
A couple of years after Commissioner Pethel was elected I contacted him about the roads. He originally said that he had another road that he was working on and would get to Cherokee and Della Slaton next. After several weeks he called me back and said if I had all right of way deeds secured that he would go ahead and seek to get these roads paved. Not all of the deeds were signed.
So, he helped me obtain the remaining right of way deeds that I could not get signed. The paving of Cherokee and Della Slaton roads have now become a reality thanks to the work of Commissioner Pethel. I would also like to thank him for meeting with me anytime that I have asked and for keeping me up to date on the progress of these roads. Thanks Commissioner Pethel for all your help, hard work, and persistence.
Sincerely,
Derrick Brown
