So he went to jail and did not get out until Monday morning. I called the jail all weekend.
They wouldn’t tell me why my son, William Brian Edwards, was in jail or as to when he would get out. Come to find out, it was a mistake on the probation office’s part. They apologized to both me and my son.
However, when I asked to speak to Clayton Lowe, his answer was we shouldn’t have burglarized, no apologies, treated us like common criminals. I will not stop, however, until I am treated with respect. I am not a criminal and my son spent three days in jail for no reason. No one should be treated like that, especially from a sheriff. Who are we electing, Mr. Rude?
There is no police report. So the sheriff is not sorry that my son spent the holiday weekend in jail and my son did five years in Unadilla State Prison and paid $6,000 in fines to Madison County. He has also been in a diversion center for his crimes.
Sincerely,
Barbara Lakin

Editor’s Note: Probation officer Emory Heard said the warrant for the arrest of William Emory Heard should have been dismissed in October of 2007. He said the failure to dismiss the warrant was his fault, adding that the sheriff’s department was acting on what they thought was a valid warrant. Sheriff Clayton Lowe said his office executes active warrants and that they believed the warrant on Edwards was valid.
crooked. One day he'll get what he deserves. He
should not be re-elected and we all should ban
together to make sure of that.
What manner did you treat the Sheriff? It's funny people always write about what he did or supposebly said? I think it would be hard for any Man/Woman/Sheriff to refrain from harsh words when someone of your statue approaches them. Mr Lowe didn't owe you the apology, the probation office does. Sounds like it isn't the first time you have frequented the law offices and I'm sure it will not be the last. Aren't you the one that filed charges/warrants?
However, since it was the probation officer who was at fault why isn't the blame being put where it belongs?
If the deputies picked Ms. Lakins son up on the paperwork that was submitted by "his" probation officer how are they to know there was a mistake? I am sure many people claim that they didn't do anything.
I am thankful to the deputies for doing their job by the book. Thanks to Sheriff Lowe for setting the high standards and supporting his deputies against accusations that are unfounded.
Re-elect Lowe!
A common misconception is the employees who are elected or are on payroll with the county should set back and let anyone talk to them however they choose and never defend themselves, and that is not the case. Treat others as you would have them treat you. Was Mr. Lowe the only one that may have been rude? I don't believe if my son had commited crimes(which was plural in your letter)and served time in a state prison and a diversion center I would have never opened my mouth. If your son is old enough to get in jail, he's old enough to get out. I may be harsh and rude too, but I don't have any sympathy for people who break the law. Mr. Lowe should not have to apologize for mistakes of the probation officer. I will continue to support Mr. Lowe for Sheriff.
Sheriff's office is in Madison County. They came to my
house on one occasion and detained my son(who has NEVER
been in trouble) claiming he was a suspect in a robbery.
When he was cleared of any wrong doing they did not even
offer an apology for the rude statements made to him in
the investigation. If that is the kind of leadership the
sheriff's office is under then that behavior is accepted
in every officers behavior with the public. That is why
this is one vote Mr. Lowe won't be getting. You can't treat
the public that way no matter the circumstance.Remember
"Protect and Serve".
Thank God for a sheriff with backbone !!! Criminals do not deserve respect !!!!
