Dear Editor:

Regarding the comment “Says Obama shows ‘double speak’ on war” in the Dec. 3 edition, I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Drago Tesanovich more.

As far as taking it to the bank, what bank, President Obama? One of those that has failed and you have given bailout monies to? There was a time for a just war against Afghanistan, but that passed years ago under Duh-Bya’s disastrous watch. We had Osama Bin Laden in our sights but Georgie was more interested in taking Iraq out, at any cost! While the Bush administration was busy fabricating reasons to go into Iraq, Osama stole quietly away. We spent $12 billion a month for this illegal and immoral war in Iraq under Bush. Also, is everybody aware of the fact that we sent pallets of money to Iraq, about $9 billion worth supposedly for bargaining with the Iraqi’s that remains totally unaccounted for?

I have been disappointed in Obama’s attitude about the wars. We need to bring our exhausted, medically and mentally wounded troops home ASAP! There is no way to win either war unless you’re willing to take the whole Middle East off the map and take millions of innocents out in the process.

It’s ludicrous to say that continuing the wars is “keeping us safe.” How many honestly believe that having to bring our battle weary troops home to fight when we are attacked again on our own soil (which will probably come when we are through destroying ourselves sufficiently enough from within) will enable us to protect and save ourselves?

To those who believe you have to support the war to be patriotic, how about truly supporting our troops?

Keep them from back-to-back deployments to the Middle East.

Help their families keep their homes out of foreclosure, food in their stomachs and clothes on their backs.

Give them the medical and mental treatments they need to recover from the horrors they have seen and been involved in.

Our economy is in desperate need of a transfusion. Let’s stop the blood and money flow and put that money into creating millions of jobs here in America rebuilding infrastructure, creating clean energy and safe foods for us to grow and eat. Although Obama has disappointed me in some ways, I will cut him some slack as he hasn’t had much time to fix what it took eight years to destroy. At least he will listen to citizens’ input which is something the former administration would not even consider.

My fear now is that there is still enough ignorance out there to decide already that the Democrats can’t do it so put the Republicans back in. We need to stop voting for the party and vote for the candidate. Many of us are disappointed in how both parties have been handling themselves but the total degradation of our precious country in the tenure of the previous deceitful administration should be enough to keep us away from that fire for a long time.

Please stay involved in the process, walk the walk and talk the talk. Vote, call and write the President, your Senators and Congressmen instead of just giving it lip service.

Ms Massey, you make some good points. I suspect that if the majority of the nation's citizens had been of your mind-set then we would have rolled over and played dead when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in '41 -especially when they rolled over the Phillipines and captured so many American soldiers and service men. Thank goodness we had a nation of people who thought and knew they could and would destroy the Japanese war machine and avenge those that lay entombed in the Arizona and those whose bodies were never recovered.
We lost more people in the 9-11 attacks and in a more horrible way than were killed at Pearl Harbor. I applaude Obama for his action in Afghanistan. There are some crimes so horrendous and terrible that they cannot be 'forgotten, overlooked or ignored'. I said crimes as that is what it was, not an act of war, but dastardly criminal acts perpetrated by rogue criminals who have such a warped perception of religion that nothing short of total destruction will stop them.
Ask the men in the field how they feel about being there. They will tell you they can win, that it is not time to withdraw until the last zealot is dead.
Bush made some mistakes certainly. Taking out Hussein was not one of them. Sadam Hussein needed to go. He gassed and murdered his own people. The last time a dictator did this on such a scale was when a man named Hitler was running the show in Germany. I guess we should have left that one alone also?
People of your ilk will hide their heads and pretend the real world does not exist. The Middle Eastern extremists do not have the same thought process as the average American. They are willing to die for what they believe in and they believe in bringing America to it's knees. We are the "Great Satan" to them. This is not just some catch phrase these people have come up with, it is what they believe. They care nothing about rights and ideas of democracy and freedom. We are just another country to be enslaved and you and I are just targets to be murdered.
I am no fan of Obama by any stretch, but he made the right decision here. I want our troops home just as you do, but I want them home victorius against this scournge. We came home from Viet Nam with our tails between our legs because of people with your attitude. I hope this will never happen again.

It didnt take much reading to see that you are one that still blames Bush for everything. If America had more people like you around during Hitlers time, Europe would be one big German speaking country now. The same arguements can be made about all the lives lost in WWII. The difference is, liberals like you, would have been considered a Nazi sympathizer. Always saying its wrong to fight those that attacked America. And you would have been rounded up and dealt with. Maybe thats what is needed now. The concept of rebuilding infrastruture smells just liberal enough to equal yet another call for bigger government wich you an those like you, seem so fond of. The only thing I agree with you on in your liberal rant, is that if we bring our troops home now, WE will surely be attacked again.

If we were fighting those that really attacked America on 9/11 we would most likely be in Saudi Arabia. Most of the hijackers came from there.
Instead, we attacked Afghanistan and Iraq.
Comparing this war to WWII is just plain crazy and ignorant.
You people that want to label others that are against this Oil War as being liberal are just blinded by lies and propaganda.
This is NOT an assualt on our Religious beliefs either. It IS an assualt on our Middle East policies that go back 40+ years.

How would you feel if Muslims in a far away country were trying to control your lives as we have theirs? Would you strike back?

Some of you will live your whole lives thinking that this gov't only does things that are right and just for our country and the rest of the world. Well, it's time to grow up! The politicians in this country are owned by large corporations, and will do what is best for Exxon and Haliburton because that's who put them in office. They don't mind sacrificing your son or daughter to accomplish their goals.
How many of you give hundreds of thousands of dollars to political organizations every year?

If you think this is not an Oil War just because YOU are not benefiting from cheaper prices at the pump,let me remind you that it is not OUR oil,it belongs to Exxon(you're friend).

I believe we needed to respond to 9/11,but no government attacked us on that day. Just a bunch of people who were fed up with our policies in THEIR part of the world.

Turn of the News(all of it) and think about this for yourself.
Calling someone who dissagrees with you "liberal" just means that your bought and paid for by the other side.

Remember, there are two sides to every story,and then there is the truth.

Mr Had, looks like you need to take another look. The Muslims in a far away country are trying to control our lives. Or do you think the 9-11 terrorist attacks were just an isolated event. Or the Cole, or the bombings of the marine barracks, or even the first bombing of the Trade Center. There are others but I think our readers get the point.
You mention Oil War. How much oil do you reckon the US is getting out of these countries. Would you believe none?
These religious extremist have declared a holy war on us. I guess that is not about religion in your eyes? Their holy book instructs on how to deal with an infidel - convert them, subjugate them or kill them. I guess this is not about religion though?
I am sure there are other terrorists in Saudia Arabia. The last time I heard however, some of the men behind the 9-11 attack were captured in Afghanistan and Osama himself was still hiding in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Maybe our intelligence community needs to recruit you since you have a lot of insight as to the location of these people.
There are indeed two sides to every story. If we sit on our backsides and do nothing as you seem to advocate, then there will only be one - the terrorists' side.

15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi Arabians. I'm not sure if any were Afghani or Iraqi.

All of the terrorist attacks that you mention are indeed linked together. Like I said, they are tired of our Imperialism in THEIR part of the world.

If you will look at our involvement in the Middle East for the last 40 years (not just the last 10) you will see why they want to kill us. It's the same reason we would want to kill them if they were trying to dictate our way of life here. We wouldn't want Muslims in control of our Christian(?) nation,correct?

There is no doubt in my mind that if the tables were turned on us, we would have plenty of Christian terrorist(?) willing to launch attacks against them if our government would not.

See, you've bought into this lie that this war is about Religion, it is not! But, govenments almost always have used Religion as a means of justifying wars. There is nothing new about this. History,my friend. Check into it. Nobody would willingly die for Oil, but Religion always does the trick.

They (Muslims) don't want us controlling their part of the world. Put yourself in their shoes. Do you want Muslims controlling us?

As of this day, NO Muslim country/gov't has ever attacked ours.

I agree with to a point but first, in the early 19th century the Muslim pirates from the Barnaby Coast did attack US ships and hold the cargo and people as hostages. The US always paid the ransoms until Jefferson decided to attack back with the Marines. Also this is a Holy War for the Muslims. Read the 9th Sura which basically says that any non-Muslim should be killed. That being said, I agree that no country attacked the US yet we went and attacked two countries and the sad part is that neither was the cause of 9/11. It is too late to bring back the military from the Middle East so this Religious War will continue for the next 1000 years or until man kills each other over mythologies.

The War against Terrorism keeps terrorist busy runnnig for cover. If we stop - they have idle time on their hands to kill 3,000 more people on our soil.

Ben Had: your hatred for capitalism is quite evident however; I agree with you that most of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia. I also know Saudi Arabia is the biggest supporters of radical Islam. I do not agree with you that this is an Oil war. It’s a war to get oil, which we all use, only because the liberals in this nation won’t allow us to drill where there is an abundance of oil, natural gas, and other sources. It’s because they want to protect an owl or a minnow, or an ocean animal, then we end up going to war, and human lives are lost instead of animals. I never claimed the government always acts correctly. You seem to think they do. I was merely making a comparison of American lives lost by the hijackers and those lost at Pearl Harbor. Both were unprovoked. Both took many lives. America fought Japan, Germany, and Italy for four years, killed many, until the enemy said, I SURRENDER. We can do the same in the middle east, if LIBERALS will sit down, shut up, and let those who truly love this country, do what needs to be done.

Well, WWII was between countries and armies. 9/11 was caused due a belief system. Tell me how to kill a belief? With countries you have a limited number of people within a limited space. With a belief you have a unlimited number of people within a worldwide area. How do you fight this and how do you win? My idea is to do away with all religions but that will never happen so people will just keep on killing because one religion believes that their god is better than the other religions god. Stupid, isn't it.

Since you brought it up... Bill; please read a history book and read about how the Japanese culture viewed their Emperor as a GOD and to die in his service was the ultimate in loyalty. (Sound familiar?) Do you think that a kamikaze pilot flew into our Navy Ships for his country? NO! He did it for his family and his emperor. To surrender was not only a shame on you, but a shame on your family’s name.
The Nazi Party promoted Hitler as a savior of the German Country and that he possessed superhuman abilities. They impressed these ideals into the youth of the country and to the adults that they were a “Chosen People” a “Master Race”, they were willing to fight and die for “Their Leader” and “The Fatherland” not for a country.
Both of these combatants were specifically fighting for a belief. We are still fighting that same kind of war. I will leave you with a quote from Napoleon: 'A man does not have himself killed for a halfpence a day of for a petty distinction. You must speak to the soul inorder to electrify him.'

I hate Capitalism? I guess that's why I own my own business and multiple properties.
You need to stop buying into this propaganda that those who dissagree with this war are liberal and against capitalism.
Your reference to drilling in Alaska shows that you have swallowed the distraction bait hook,line and sinker.

Think for yourself. Research our Middle East involvement for the last 40-50 years. I would be stunned if you didn't change your opinion once you've been educated with facts,instead of sensationalism.
You sound like a pre-recorded Fox News commercial(but they get paid to say it).

Believe me, I couldn't care less if they drill for oil in Alaska. But, if you think that YOU will benefit from said drilling, you're sadly mistaken.

Send your child(or better yet,someone elses') to die for Exxon Oil if you want to, but don't think for one minute any of mine are going over there.

You either fight them on their soil or you will deal with them again on our soil. You must know in your heart that to try to work with these people, it just won't happen. They will be happy only when you wear one of those rags on your head and pray to a false God and worship some idiot. Please think about this. You are in a war even if you don't want to be. Remember they took the towers down and attacked us. You need to really think about this.
