The E-911 Center received a bomb threat around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, stating that there was possibly some type of device in the gymnasium at Madison County High School.
Officers from the sheriff’s department, Danielsville police, the Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the school and swept both the high school gym and the Colt Academy gym but found nothing suspicious, according to chief deputy Major Shawn Burns of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
School officials opted not to evacuate the school and business was conducted as usual during the search, according to Burns.
The incident remains under investigation.
Burns said this was the second such incident at the school so far this school year.
Here is the letter from the MCHS website:
At 12:30 PM today, MCHS was contacted by the 911 office about a call they had just received. A caller alleged that MCHS had individuals on campus with weapons. As soon as the 911 office received this call, they immediately dispatched all law enforcement in this area including the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Danielsville Police and Fire, the GA State Patrol, and the GBI. Law enforcement arrived to find the school secure and the report false. If you hear reports of a large contingency of law enforcement being on campus today, we wanted all parents/guardians to know the reason. Law enforcement will aggressively prosecute the person who made this false report to the full extent of the law.
