A Commerce man was arrested after he fled from a deputy trying to pull him over for speeding (63 mph in a 45 mph zone) on Neese Commerce Road.
Josepha Kyle Evans, 20, 3572 Hwy. 98 West, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, driving on wrong side of the road and failure to stop at a stop sign.
According to the incident report, Deputy Jeff Strickland was traveling southbound on Neese Commerce when he observed a red Honda traveling at a high rate of speed. When he turned around and activated his blue lights and siren for a traffic stop, the Honda reportedly turned onto W.L. Williams Road at a high rate of speed, sliding sideways. After following the subject into Jackson County, Strickland lost sight of him and notified Jackson County. About that time, Corporal Jason Luke of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office notified Strickland that the red Honda had passed him and turned into a residence on Hwy. 98 West, where he and Deputy Alan Stratton saw him run into the residence.
Evans was found standing in the living room of the residence and arrested. He denied being the driver of the vehicle, but his boot prints matched those found beside the vehicle, as did his appearance and the cap he was wearing when Strickland first spotted him.
In another arrest, David Christopher Patrick, 39, of 2613 Hardman Morris Road, Colbert, was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA) after he allegedly got into a physical altercation with his juvenile son. The deputy reportedly observed marks on the boy’s neck.
