Three arrested following robbery at Jai’s Country Store

Three people were arrested Tuesday for theft by taking, and false report of a crime following several days of investigation into the robbery at Jai’s Country Store Saturday Jan. 9.

Clayton Patron Cooper, 29, Athens, and Mikkos Shavoris Gantt, 20, Hull were both booked into the Madison County Jail and charged with theft by taking. The clerk at the store, Ashley Renee Watson, 25, Colbert, was charged with theft by taking and also false report of a crime after the investigation revealed that she was aware of the robbery and helped the other suspects complete the incident over the phone.

All three subjects are being held at the Madison County Jail. Bond has not been set at the time of this release.

But were the phone card thet were stolen prepaid cell phone cards or regular prepaid land line phone cards? Either way couldn't the company who the card were for look up the serial numbers for the stolen cards and cancel them so they wouldn't work and if they were cell phone cards couldn't they run the numbers and find out what cell phone they were used to add minutes too. If so they should be able to get a number and alot of the time you can contact the carrier and get an address that way?

Yes they could track them, but often times they have to be activated before they'll work. They'll probably just sell them though.

Yes and I was thinking when you buy a prepaid cell phone card the cashier has to activate it or it's no good but if they sold them like at the Flea Market by the time you try to put the minutes on your phone they will have your money and be long gone because everyone knows if you buy something at the flea market you don't get no paper work and the person who sold you the item may never be there again.

The police were probably too busy looking for drunken horse riders and mothers who knock their disobedient kids in the heads and the like to lend assistance.

I just don't understand, the owners have multiple stores and it seems this is the only one without cameras. This store has been robbed over and over and still they don't beef up the security at all.

If you would read the Madison Co. paper on Wednesday you would see they do have cameras and had his visual picture in the paper.

Why in the hell do they keep letting Ashley out of jail. She has been arrested about 3-4 times for theft! Lock that girl up and make her serve some hard time, maybe that would be a wake up call for her.

Judges and bail bond people are stupid. Just like the Parhams people. I don't know why people keeps getting out of jail. Why even bother them if they just gonna let them out?

Because they make more money off probation and fines than they would if they sent them to prison? If they were to send them to prison that's it no money coming in. These people can't get caugt breaking the law if they are in prison. So they have the revolving door system in the jail. They get caught today serve a couple days in jail get out with a fine and probation fees then a month later they get caught again same thing over and over again. The County makes more with the revolving door system than it would if they sent these people to prison.

It's called the judicial system. Those that work in it did not write the laws, the only have to follow them. The prison system is crowded. This girl still has to have her day in court just like every other charged person. She may still get prison time, just because she was BONDED out of the county jail doesnt mean she was set free. She still has to go to court then if found guilty will be sentenced. Did you ever hear presumed innocent until found guilty? Not saying she's innocent or guilty, don't know her, but people have this..oh they went to jail, they must have did it. Just saying some of yall all the time have nothing else to do bloggers should really get a job or maybe even read your Bible instead of ALWAYS blogging such such comments. What if that was one of your family members or your daughter even? Just saying, its something to think about.

You said something that may used to be true but it's not really true no more. In the United States it's supposed to be "Your innocent until proven guilty" but that's not really true no more. Now you have to prove you are innocent instead of them proving you are guilty.

It looks to me like if she had been arrested 3-4 times already she wouldn't be able to get a job dealing with money? But these people probably thought they would give her a second chance? Look at it, what did taking this chance cost you? But now since her name was published in the paper everybody in Madison County knows and any store owner will have to take a long hard look at her record before hiring her and PLEASE don't let her touch no money or it will cost you in the long run.

Hey April why dont you call d'ville p.d. they are the ones that locked up the kids not the sheriff's office. looks like they were too busy locking up people for a falsely reported crime.
