The city of Danielsville continued the trend of Madison County cities donating to the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter, pledging $1,000 to the facility.
That’s the largest donation so far from any city in the county. Hull and Comer each made $500 contributions.
Danielsville had already budgeted $1,000 for the shelter and mayor Philip Croya said Monday that now is the time to give it that money.
“I would like to go ahead and do that,” Croya said. “The other cities around are giving $500 donations to the animal shelter and we’ve actually got $1,000 budgeted for the animal shelter.”
The shelter is struggling financially and had a recent donation drive to raise funds.
The Hull City Council voted in December to give $500 and councilman Wayne Melton challenged the other cities in the county to do the same.
Comer followed suit in January with a $500 contribution.
