Former long-time Madison County deputy Donald Glenn Carr, 45, was arrested Monday morning on theft and other charges by officer Trent Hillsman of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Carr was charged with theft by taking, tampering with evidence and violation of oath of office, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Carr turned himself in to the GBI at the sheriff’s office Monday morning and was booked into the Madison County jail on $10,000 bond, according to sheriff Kip Thomas.

The investigation that led to the arrest stemmed from a discrepancy with evidence in a case that was handled by Deputy Carr when he was employed by Madison County, according to the press release. When the discrepancy was discovered by a sheriff’s investigator, the GBI was called in to handle the investigation and the arrest was made, Thomas said.

Carr is a 17-year veteran with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. He resigned on Sept. 30, 2009.

What is up with this county? Let us guess, some way some how he would never do anything like that? Has Madison County not endured enough humiliation with thieves? Good thing he didn't get that promotion no telling what might of happened. He is not the first, and not the last we are all sure.

No maammmmmm this is money that we paid and their are those that are barely making by as it is and still paying taxes. Wonder if this amount correct in taken plus all others convicted of taking funds how much would it be. Several hundred thousands perhap ? I feel for his family. If he did what noted then no pity and bet jail time will not be pleasant.

Yes I go to church and often turn cheek (face) as they say. But there is a time to say no more. MC great county and great people who do not deserve to have their money stolen. If turns out this person unjustly charged then he has civil legal recourse and should prevail.

Yes Donald Carr I have you in my prayers to. There are some rehabs and na meettings for people like you. I hope you get what you got coming to you. What goes around comes around. The BIBLE says, "do unto others as you want them to do unto you"... This happens. Seems more in MC though. My vote is independent organization review all departments monetary spending. Our taxes are used to improve MC and our county employee's are paid (includes benefits ) overall better than civilian market in my view. Taking our funds shows disrespect in my view to those of us working and paying increasing tax load for ? someone to take money ? I think not.

I don't think it said he took money, but i know a family of four on his salary...well they would qualify for food stamps---thats why most of those guys ems and deputies work two jobs. OH please, our county employees are not paid more than the civilian market, the guys working at McDonalds on hwy 29 make almost the same.

No maaannnn again. His fringe benefits better than Macie D's. Many families of 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 make due every day on his salary but still PAY taxes / do not break the law. Good person many of us are fed up with this view of poor this person and had to do this or that when many many more do not.

Also police officer if indeed took funds then I would have concerns over his views of arresting people. Did he decide to be judge and jury ? Hope they ask people he arrested did all evidence make it to court. If all evidence made it to court then maybe he should go to incareration setting where security less intense and true hard core crimminals are not there.

Miss Anonymous there is a time coming as I live thru in late 50's then 73 thru 83 when there will be tough times and today families like mind need there pennies.

Put a homemade earring in that left ear and a doo-rag on his head and he will fit right in with the big boys in the big house. Appropriate that Mr. Carr will get to have the same prison experiences of the other drug offenders he has helped put in prison. I bet his views regarding some of the kids he busted for weed and whatnot over the years will change very soon. Somewhere there is a large man in there who needs a friendly and cooperative cell mate. Just like the people you pointed your finger at in the courtroom.

YOU ARE JUST STUPID, if Deputy Carr put someone in jail for "weed" or "whatnot" or what you call "other drug offenders" then they deserved to go to prison....and they had their day in court, deputy carr has not had his day yet. If these "drug Offenders" were found guilty, then they should have went to JAIL!

There have been multiple complaints over the years regarding people stopped, detained on the roadway searched for illegal drugs, unprofessional conduct, etc, etc, etc. It goes to show the more one gets away with, the more one will do. Sometimes you can just look at a person and know that they are not what they seem. I know people whom have been mistreated, cursed, manhandled by this deputy. Many complaints have been posted here on this site about such actions. I had the ocassion to be stopped by this deputy, when he approached my car the first thing he asked was "where's the drugs, I know they are in here". Not, May I see your license and registration please? Am I being bitter, not intentionally. Has he held himself to the standards of Deputy Sheriff's across the Nation, No. He clearly violated his Oath and was charged accordingly. Sheriff Thomas got this one right but I bet it killed him to do so. Really makes you wonder about cases made from this deputy over the years. I bet now multiple cases will be looked at, subject to dismissal. By the way he did wear a doo rag, he did have a ear ring while attempting to work as a vice detective. Makes you wonder what he had access to while working in that position. We all know, we all hear, we all see, what goes around, comes around. Mr. Carr was no different than anyone or any criminal, except, he got caught. We all know this will never go to trial, not in this County. The last 17 years, judged by 12 of his peers in this County. I think I would go ahead and settle for the prison term offered by the D.A. Then again, our system, our D.A., you may be better taking your chances.

I agree fully. Zoning / animal control / hwy dept / water all of them. Bet they would have no objections as they have done no wrong but looking tell taxpayors we appreciate your taxes and hard work.
