Madison County High School is a step closer to perhaps having an on-campus officer patrolling its hallways.
Superintendent Mitch McGhee received a proposal recently from sheriff Kip Thomas for a school resource officer funded through sheriff’s department money.
The Madison County Board of Education (BOE) will likely make a decision on the matter at next month’s meeting.
McGhee shared the proposal with the BOE Feb. 9, the same day he received it.
Though he hadn’t had time to study it extensively, McGhee said, “as far as the quick read goes, it’s pretty good.”
The only expense to the school system would be providing the officer with an office space, desk, phone and computer.
A law enforcement officer must undergo special training to serve as a school resource officer, and McGhee said he’s heard that an officer would be certified by July and ready for the 2010-2011 school year.
McGhee said he’d ask the school board to vote on the matter next month, so he can sign the agreement.
“If we want to go forward with this, we need to start making plans,” McGhee said.
who you voted for sounds like you are the loser not
