The city of Ila will be 100 years old this year.
City clerk Susan Steed informed the council of the town’s anniversary at their February council meeting. The council asked city attorney Pat Graham to look up the date the official city charter was signed.
Councilman Nathaniel Hobbs and Steed met with the Department of Transportation about the resurfacing of Sewell Mill Road. (The road has been chosen as a state resurfacing project through the LARP program.) DOT officials said the road will need to be patched before the resurfacing can be done. Steed was asked to contact Charles Temple at the county road department about helping the city get this done.
The council heard that water line construction is going well and appears to be on schedule.
The water lines will be flushed (routine procedure) in April, or as soon as the new lines are completed, the council noted.
Steed reported that Eagle Scout Jackson Avant has asked to do his Eagle Scout service project for the city. The council discussed flowerbeds around the flagpole and at the drive to city hall as a possible project. The city agreed to pay for any materials needed for the project.
