LETTER: Says ‘Hugo Chavez’ arrived in Danielsville

Dear Editor:

After being drug down by the recent passing of the venomous health care bill, I was even more appalled yesterday. I see that Hugo Chavez, the American enemy and hater of this country, has arrived in Danielsville.

I know the last gas station in town, going north on Hwy. 29, has been many different types of gas stations. Now, I see it is going to support the man who has voiced his hate for our country and president Bush and who has openly told us so. Citgo is owned by this man, and I was saddened to see that this station is going to be a Citgo now. I wonder why we need to support this “America Hater”? When will people wake up and start taking a stand for the America I grew up in. We have enough thugs in Washington right now that are trying to destroy our country, without supporting the foreign haters of our great land.

I got a question for the people in Washington D.C. WHY and HOW is this man walking around FREE? I heard that he owned the old Royal station now and I said then that I wouldn't ever go back in it again as long as he owns it. AND how did he get a business license to operate a store here? That proves who ever is in charge that is out for the almighty dollar.
I may not agree with some things the presidents now and in the past have said or done BUT I ain't going out in public and telling everyone I hate that man or this country.
We the people of Madison County can ban together and stop going in this store and if he can't get no business HE will have to close or sell.

Do you really think that if Chauvez was an actual threat to the United States that our gov't would continue to let him do business here? Wouldn't they levy trade sanctions against his country?

Hugo Chavez is a hero in his country because he stood up to, put strong controls on, and evicted many of the uncooperative foreign corporations that were stealing the people's natural resources in Venezuela. We need someone with the backbone of Chavez here. Sadly, the corporations already own the U.S.A., and people like yourself have been too busy waving your flag while they bought it all.

Anonymous, please do not leave out of your rant that he shut down media outlets that didn't broadcast favorable stories of himself and his regime (34 to be exact), tried to amend Venezuela's constitution to allow him to stay in office indefinitely and raided the home of a private media boss because he had allowed some private groups to use his station for free that disagreed with Hugo. Definitely hero material wouldn't you say?

This court jester thoughts are indicative of the left's mentality. The evil, greedy, nasty corporations (the businesses that create jobs and such) should be reigned in through the all knowing and all seeing honest government. After all, they know what's best for us. They must save us from ourselves.

Wake up folks and smell the non-homogenized, non-fat, soy milk latte. You control what you but from the corporations, the grocery, retail stores. Use your brain to make decisions and not let the gov't do it for you.

As I have said before, capitalism, while not perfect, has brought more people of of poverty than any other socio-economic system our civilization has ever seen. Don't let folks like Anon here water it down or destroy it.

Chavez doesn't worry me so much as anti-Americanism at home. Sure seems to me like the people who hate America the most are the disloyal Americans who cuss out and disrespect the President of the United States. Whatever we think about the man in office, my parents raised me to respect the OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT. What did you learn? Patriotism is optional if your party doesn't win?

Whoever owns the gas station is probably just a struggling local businessman trying to make a living in these hard times, and gets his oil where he can. Half the stuff you buy in Danielsville is made in China anyway and they aren't exactly fans of the US. We should all support Madison County businesses in this economy unless you want to see us lose businesses and go further into the tank.

If these people want to boycott a business that truly has hurt(s) Americans, and has done more to destroy the way of life that most of you would kill to get back, then look no further than Walmart.

Walmart sent your manufacturing jobs overseas.
How?
Walmart is the largest retailer in the world.
If you make a retail product,you really need for Walmart to stock it in their stores.
Make sense so far?
Well,low prices is what makes Walmart #1,so companies must be able to produce their items at the lowest price possible to get on the shelf there. Walmart doesn't care where a TV is made,they just care about the price.

Say a TV that will sale for $300 takes 12 hours to make; American labor cost would be $240 minimum(including benefits), overseas cost would be $96(forget about benefits).

The only way American businesses can compete with Mexican labor wages(maybe $8 a day) is to move to Mexico. Same with China. That's what has happened.

The other big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot have also contributed to the demise of the Mom and Pop community based businesses that supported American made products.
Quality materials got cut first, then their was nothing left to trim except labor cost.

I hate Walmart,never go there,but I go to Lowes alot.

We wanted low prices. We ended up with that matched with low quality and no jobs.

Citgo by the way is not owned by Hugo Chavez, as it is based out of Houston, Texas. Chavez is in Caracas, Venezuela, the other side of the Gulf of Mexico.

Citgo gets their oil from Venezuela at a certain price, and that is as far as communication, if there's any at all, with Chavez goes. He does not run Citgo, he does not own the gas stations, and I'm sure the last place a president of any country wants to live is Danielsville, so I'm sure you're all safe.

By the way, I think Chavez should be the last of your concerns about oil. How about the fact Chevron and Shell have practically ruined Nigeria and have placed the country into a Civil War over depleting their oil? Wait... it's in Africa, and the nation speaks English as a first language... no Socialism there!

Wil is partially right. More right than wrong. Hugo Chavez exports his country's oil to the US and other countries. This oil is splt and destributed to hundreds of refineries that oil is mixed with oil of other countries. This oil is then refined and placed in to a central distribution line where it is pumped and routed through the entire country to distribution points. It is there that the individual companies add additives and such. The gas/fuel is then taken to individual gas stations owned by independent small businesses or corporations.

Hugo Chavez is an idiot and if you want to call him a "president" you can... HE is nothing more than a pot stirrer. He blows smoke so everyone will pay atention to him. Sean Penn being one of them.

Why would you be concerned with a gas station while this "great" president of the USA is letting 47% of Americans get by without paying taxes while those like most of us here get stuck footing the bill.

Monthly Random drug test for all citizens who receive state and federal assistance. Now that would be awesome. lol.

I did not mean Hugo Chavez was physically in Danielsville. He OWNS Citgo oil. If you buy gas at any Citgo, you are putting money in his pocket. The thing that baffles me is why any AMERICAN would patronize Citgo. I think the problem we have in this country is we haven't stood up for anything in so long, now we just fall for anything! If we don't start taking an interest in what is going on around us, and in Washington, we will lose American , as we know it, forever!

I think alot of Americans problem is they think just because he owns citgo oil and not the station if they shop there he ain't getting none of the money BUT some of the money DOES go in his pocket or he wouldn't have his company sign on it. Just like the other big named stores like WalMart, Target, Kmart, McDonalds, Wendy's the corporation gets a prcentage of what they make OR they wouldn't have their name on it.

Teresa, I understand your viewpoint, but what company does not get gas from people who hate us? Yes Citgo gets their gas from Venezuela, but guess how much they get from the Middle East... None. Chevron can't say that, Shell can't say that, Marathon can't, Exxon can't. Is there really a difference? If you want to reduce dependency on foreign oil then go find the nearest QuikTrip, because they get their gasoline domestically and you're not destroying nations or supporting "dictators" and princes.

Hugo- NOPE I don't want to see your country never have and never will. I don't want to be your comrade or friend. I don't want people to think I agree with you about America. I'll be the first to admit this country ain't perfect but we are a free nation. Free to say and do what ever we want as long as it's not against the law. You may say since you are here then you was free to say what you did and say YES you were and because of freedom of speach is why you ain't in jail BUT have you ever heard to be careful what you say because there are some words you can't take back and you made that mistake.

Ok, Hugo Chavez...you've had you're fun...now it's time to give it a break. Resident Redneck may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but enough is enough. Although you think your little stunt is funny, I happen to think it's just plain cruel. To pick on a man that has been disabled with a brain injury (fact BTW) is just sickening. You have a morbid sense of humor and I can't believe that this site has allowed you to do this.
