Dear Editor:
After being drug down by the recent passing of the venomous health care bill, I was even more appalled yesterday. I see that Hugo Chavez, the American enemy and hater of this country, has arrived in Danielsville.
I know the last gas station in town, going north on Hwy. 29, has been many different types of gas stations. Now, I see it is going to support the man who has voiced his hate for our country and president Bush and who has openly told us so. Citgo is owned by this man, and I was saddened to see that this station is going to be a Citgo now. I wonder why we need to support this “America Hater”? When will people wake up and start taking a stand for the America I grew up in. We have enough thugs in Washington right now that are trying to destroy our country, without supporting the foreign haters of our great land.
Sincerely,
Teresa Olds
I may not agree with some things the presidents now and in the past have said or done BUT I ain't going out in public and telling everyone I hate that man or this country.
We the people of Madison County can ban together and stop going in this store and if he can't get no business HE will have to close or sell.
Do you really think that if Chauvez was an actual threat to the United States that our gov't would continue to let him do business here? Wouldn't they levy trade sanctions against his country?
Politicians use rhetoric to unite the ignorant masses and gain favor over their opponents.
Same as Fox News. Do yourself a favor, and turn it off.
This court jester thoughts are indicative of the left's mentality. The evil, greedy, nasty corporations (the businesses that create jobs and such) should be reigned in through the all knowing and all seeing honest government. After all, they know what's best for us. They must save us from ourselves.
Wake up folks and smell the non-homogenized, non-fat, soy milk latte. You control what you but from the corporations, the grocery, retail stores. Use your brain to make decisions and not let the gov't do it for you.
As I have said before, capitalism, while not perfect, has brought more people of of poverty than any other socio-economic system our civilization has ever seen. Don't let folks like Anon here water it down or destroy it.
The reason they are popular is because it's easy for their chosen market to relate to the emotions of Fear and Hate, and that's what they're using for bait to hook their audience.
Those that fear the unknown, and hate everyone that doesn't look like themselves are easy to manipulate.
Picture Archie Bunker. He would definitely be a Fox News viewer, don't you agree? He was a God-fearing racist bigot just like the ones that live in about 90% of the households in Madison County.
I live in one of the other 10%.
So,I can't relate.
sorry.
"... a God-fearing racist bigot just like the ones that live in about 90% of the households in Madison County.

sorry. "
Don't you mean "So, I don't want to relate"? Get off your soapbox, stop drinking the kool-aid and emancipate yourself from the rest of the pseudo-intellectuals. Wanting to conserve indiviual rights and liberties does not make one a racist bigot. I would say that lines like these weaken your argument, however your arguments against the evil right wing usually have no merit with which to start.
Your regurgitated and quick to use terms like, "kool aid,left-wing,pseudo-intellectual,etc", make you stand out like a card-carrying sore thumb.
Look this one up,Neocon.
My statement about the "racist bigots" comes from a lifetime of living here. If you think it's not accurate, you're either not from around here,or just lying to yourself like the rest of the hypocrites. It has nothing to do with "Wanting to conserve indiviual rights and liberties", and you're smart enough to know that. You just wanted to deflect from the truth with alittle rhetoric of your own, didn't you.
Nice try.
I like Fox News, sure. I agree with their point of view... just like you probably agree with the nutballs on MSNBC. I don't "regurgitate" their talking points. I have a mind of my own - however, here I will regurgitate a well known truism to differentiate between you and I. "If you're not a liberal when you're 20 you don't have a soul, if you're not a conservative when you're 40, you don't have a brain."
""kool aid,left-wing,pseudo-intellectual,etc", make you stand out like a card-carrying sore thumb. " I only used those terms because, when the shoe fits, you should wear it.
"Look this one up,Neocon." Look this one up "Marxist."

You actually believe that 90 percent of the people in Madison County are racist bigots? You see what you want to see, it is not necessarily the truth. I agree that there are some racist bigots, but Madison County doesn't not hold a corner on the market. I would also opine that the percentage is much smaller. You're a walking cliche... 73 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.
"It has nothing to do with "Wanting to conserve indiviual rights and liberties", and you're smart enough to know that. You just wanted to deflect from the truth with alittle rhetoric of your own, didn't you."
No. I was just pointing out how closed minded "liberals" have become.
I like Fox News, sure. I agree with their point of view..."
You could have stopped right there,I already knew what the rest would be.
I just turned 50 years old,and I'm proud to say that I don't watch any news stations.Never been to MSNBC. I too, watched Fox News for several years until I realized that I just didn't belong. Too much hate and fear for me.
"opine" (Bill Oreilly).
You nutjobs think that everyone that disagrees with you is a liberal.
You're trained to hate Mexicans, but big business is the ones that's giving them your job.
You're trained to hate Gays and think that abortion rights are the most important thing in your life, so that you will be distracted from the issues that really matter.
You're trained to hate an entire religion(that was easy) so that big business can steal their resources and continue the very profitable business of war.
You have a mind of your own? I haven't seen it.
I own two businesses and a bunch of property in this county, and you want to call me Marxist?
A liberal? That's laughable.
You better realize that this country is being divided in two just like your big mouth demonstrates, and you need to realize who's doing it,and fast. You're being used.
That's the facts.
If I want to know what you
opine", I'll just turn on Fox. Thanks anyway.
There is no "hate" on Fox News as much as your talking points might disagree. I don't need Bill O'Reily to teach me "big words." If his show is the first place you heard the word "opine" or had the occasion to use it in written discourse, I am sorry. It's really not that rare.
I don't think that everyone who disagrees with me is a liberal.. only that they are most oftentimes wrongheaded. In this particular instance, you are a liberal and you are wrong. This is a mere circumstance.
I don't hate Mexicans. I have a lot of respect for Mexicans. They are hard workers and, as a perople-group, are filled with the values that made the US a great country. I have never written against "Mexicans." I have said, only half in jest, that the US should have taken the initiative to gather the rest of the Mexican states into our territories in the 1800's and we would not have this huge southern border to defend... I'm not "trained" to hate anyone... unlike you. Who does your training make you hate? Christians, Conservatives, people who disagree with you....
I don't hate gays. I'm sorry, for them, that they are predisposed to be attracted in unnatural ways and that this predisposition makes them have such difficult circumstances in life. Everyone has their cross to bear. I don't, however see how gays and abortion "rights." have any common denominator with which to tie them. Neither has a consuming role in my life. As far as abortion "rights," I choose to not murder, whether it be of lives that have exited the womb or lives that are still inside the mother's body. I don't htink that it is valid to governmentally sanction murder of lives that can not live on their own whether it be a child in the womb or an accident victim on life support. This is my view. If you disagree with it, that is for you to hash out with your maker whether you believe in him or not. I assume you are not a writer of legislation or a member of the Supreme Court. You are, at most, a voter in a representative republic.
I will give you a half-nod on the religion issue. I believe Islam is a lie, a perversion of the god of Abraham and Moses. I also believe that Mormonism is a lie in the same vein. I am trained to love people for, as we all know, I am a Christian and if you have read the sacred book of my religion, you will understand that it precludes belief in others. "You people" throw around the word "hate" a lot and never try to understand the reasons for disagrement that your opponent has. I "hate" Islam because I love people and would wish that they not believe in a lie, not so that some "big business" could make money. If a "big business" makes money because of a war, that is collateral. If you believe that Islamists who believe in the Quaran are not instructed to convert or slay those who disagree with the Prophet's teachings, you should take the time to read the book. Get your head out of the sand, Ben. That Kool-aid must be getting gritty!
You haven't "seen" my mind because you refuse to look. You said as much in another post to another thread. You "can't have an intellectual conversation..." because you don't understand that true intellectualism includes taking others' points of view into consideration.
I didn't call you a Marxist. I told you to look up the word. It's glaringly obvious that you don't uderstand simple politics and the words that define views.
Congratulations on your foray into capitalism. "How's that 'hopey changey' thing workin' out for ya?" You can deny that you are a liberal, but if it quacks like a duck, it's most likely not a chicken.
I realize that this country is being divided in two. I'm sorry that the truths in what I write inspired you to such rage. I do realize who is doing it. I'm not being used. I'm just a voice on a small town newspaper's comment thread. I'm not a community organizer. I have no aspirations to the country's highest office. I haven't spent my younth in academia being tutored by far left leaning radicals and forming ties that will boost my career. I'm just a small town boy who disagrees with you.
Liberals used to encourage free exchange of ideas. What happened to you?
You're boring me. Too naive and lacking any semblemce of originality for me to stay engaged,so I won't be responding to anymore of your drivel.
Now,bring on the Big Fish!
ps. stop quoting yourself. I bet you still do that air parenthesis thing while you talk, huh?
Whoever owns the gas station is probably just a struggling local businessman trying to make a living in these hard times, and gets his oil where he can. Half the stuff you buy in Danielsville is made in China anyway and they aren't exactly fans of the US. We should all support Madison County businesses in this economy unless you want to see us lose businesses and go further into the tank.
Walmart sent your manufacturing jobs overseas.
How?
Walmart is the largest retailer in the world.
If you make a retail product, you really need for Walmart to stock it in their stores.
Make sense so far?
Well, low prices is what makes Walmart #1,so companies must be able to produce their items at the lowest price possible to get on the shelf there. Walmart doesn't care where a TV is made, they just care about the price.
Say a TV that will sale for $300 takes 12 hours to make; American labor cost would be $240 minimum(including benefits), overseas cost would be $96(forget about benefits).
The only way American businesses can compete with Mexican labor wages(maybe $8 a day) is to move to Mexico. Same with China. That's what has happened.
The other big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot have also contributed to the demise of the Mom and Pop community based businesses that supported American made products.
Quality materials got cut first, then their was nothing left to trim except labor cost.
I hate Walmart, never go there, but I go to Lowes alot.
We wanted low prices. We ended up with that matched with low quality and no jobs.
The ol' bullet to the foot routine.
Citgo by the way is not owned by Hugo Chavez, as it is based out of Houston, Texas. Chavez is in Caracas, Venezuela, the other side of the Gulf of Mexico.
Citgo gets their oil from Venezuela at a certain price, and that is as far as communication, if there's any at all, with Chavez goes. He does not run Citgo, he does not own the gas stations, and I'm sure the last place a president of any country wants to live is Danielsville, so I'm sure you're all safe.
By the way, I think Chavez should be the last of your concerns about oil. How about the fact Chevron and Shell have practically ruined Nigeria and have placed the country into a Civil War over depleting their oil? Wait... it's in Africa, and the nation speaks English as a first language... no Socialism there!
Hugo Chavez is an idiot and if you want to call him a "president" you can... HE is nothing more than a pot stirrer. He blows smoke so everyone will pay atention to him. Sean Penn being one of them.
Why would you be concerned with a gas station while this "great" president of the USA is letting 47% of Americans get by without paying taxes while those like most of us here get stuck footing the bill.
Monthly Random drug test for all citizens who receive state and federal assistance. Now that would be awesome. lol.
Is it taped to your refrigerator?
I have a residential TV antenna business, and I also sell beepers.
Is your store in Ila?
No, I don't have a store in Ila,so don't boycott whoever does.
I have a service business and and online business. Plus rental property
Don't worry,they're not trailers.
