Two men were arrested on separate charges during a traffic stop last week after one of them reportedly stole a case of beer from a local convenience store.
Rocky Dean Strickland, 30, 174 Eighth Avenue, Colbert, was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting for allegedly stealing a case of beer from the Quick Pick on Hwy. 72 in Colbert. The driver of the vehicle, Roger Dale Strickland, 38, of 174 Eighth Avenue, Colbert, was charged with driving while license withdrawn.
According to the incident report, officers obtained a description of the vehicle the suspect (Rocky Strickland) left the store in and a traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle on Hwy. 29 near Diamond Hill Grocery.
In another incident, Rafael Leonard Harris, 27, 88 Maplewood Lane, Hull, was charged with battery, two counts of criminal trespass, and interference with a 911 call after he allegedly struck his girlfriend, broke her cell phone when she tried to call 911 and damaged property during a domestic dispute.
•A caretaker reportedly stole a bottle of Lortab from a patient’s home on Valley Road last week. According to the report, Nicola Michelle Sapp, 32, 1119 Campbell Street Ext., Elberton, was charged with one count each of illegal possession of a controlled substance and obtaining possession of a controlled substance by fraud, theft, forgery or deception after officers were summoned to the home where she was employed as a caretaker. The victim, an amputee who is in a wheelchair, reported that her prescription Lortab was missing from her kitchen table. Sapp and another caretaker were at the home at the time officers arrived and gave consent for their personal items to be searched. The missing pills were allegedly found in Sapp’s purse located inside her vehicle. She was arrested and taken to jail on the listed charges.
•Battery was reported on Kudzu Road when deputies responded to a call about a domestic dispute. The couple had been arguing throughout the day and the woman reported that the man had “jumped on her” and struck her several times.
•A woman on East Piedmont Park reported that her juvenile son was missing and that he had probably run away. He later returned home.
•A Isuzu Amigo was reported stolen from a residence on Holly Creek Church Road.
•An abandoned SUV was towed from Watson Mill Road.
•Someone on Hwy. 29 North reported that their stepson stole a shotgun and a laptop computer to allegedly purchase illegal drugs.
•Harassing phone calls were reported on Hill Lake Road when a man said he has received approximately 40 text messages from an unknown person saying they are going to beat him and his girlfriend up.
•Royal Foods in Ila reported that a customer attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. The customer said he had received the bill in change from another store.
•A TV was reportedly stolen from a home on Hwy. 106 South.
•A First Citizens Bank official reported that two black males attempted to cash forged checks in the amount of $1,762 from a construction company on the same business day.
•Someone reportedly robbed a Pepsi vending machine at Royal Foods in Ila.
•Simple battery was reported on Hudson Rivers Church Road after a couple got into a fight over rent money and the man allegedly pushed the woman down on the ground.
•Someone reportedly tried to “hotwire” a truck at a home on Hwy. 29 South. The owner discovered that the truck had been tampered with when he tried to crank it the next day.
•A woman reported that her cell phone was taken after she laid it down as she shopped at Ingles in Hull. When the woman attempted to contact the phone, she said that she received a text message back telling her to stop calling and demanding a reward for the phone’s return.
•The rear driver’s side window of a vehicle parked on the street at Kimberly Circle was shattered. No apparent entry was made into the vehicle.
•Simple battery was reported at a home on Bolton Drive after a woman told deputies that her estranged boyfriend had come to her home wanting to reconcile and became enraged when she told him she could not go out with him because she did not have a babysitter. He reportedly began to threaten her, pressing a car key to her face in front of their children. The victim said the children were trying to get him to stop. She was advised of the process of getting a restraining order against the man.
•Several poultry houses were burglarized on Stone Stewart Road.
•A man on Wildcat Bridge Road told deputy Joshua Smith that a man he knows came into his yard and threatened to beat him up, poured gasoline on his pickup truck and threw a propane tank into the windshield, then poured gasoline on a Cub Cadet mower and busted a window on the garage door of the residence. Warrants were to be issued for the suspect.
•A flat screen TV was stolen from a home on James Spring Road.
•A man on Stapler Road reported that someone had tried to break into his residence through the back door. Nothing was reported missing.
•Simple assault was reported on Gunnell Road after an altercation between a man and his nephew. Harassing phone calls in regards to this incident were also reported.
•Simple battery was reported on Martin Griffeth Road following an altercation between two men.
•Terroristic threats and acts were reported on Paoli Road after a woman reported that her aunt’s live-in boyfriend came to her home on a four-wheeler and began to argue with her aunt, who was spending the night with her. When the woman tried to intervene, the aunt’s boyfriend reportedly told her if she got in the way, she would be “dealt with.” The man and her aunt had left together on the four-wheeler before officers arrived.
•A purse was reportedly stolen from under the front seat of a vehicle that was broken into on Stone Creek Drive.
•Pedestrian under the influence and battery FVA were reported on Griffeth Road after someone called to report a man and a woman arguing along the road in front of her house.
•Simple battery was reported on Della Slaton Road on Easter Sunday after woman reported that her niece, who is living with her, began a physical altercation with her when she told her to get out of bed.
•An officer was called to a home on Hill Street in Comer on Easter to break up a domestic dispute between a couple who were allegedly fighting over whose family their 4-year old daughter was going to spend Easter with. They ultimately agreed to split the time their daughter spent at each family’s home. They told the officer they planned to get a divorce.
•Battery FVA was reported on Hwy. 106 North after an altercation between a couple over their daughter. According to the incident report, the trouble began when the man began yelling at their daughter as she was washing the dog. The woman, who was asleep on the couch, woke up and told him that she and the girl were going to leave. At that point, the man allegedly grabbed her keys and told them they would have to walk. When the woman said she was going next door to call the police, the man allegedly choked her and told her he would kill her. He then threw the keys at her and they left.
•A pressure washer was reportedly taken from a carport on Hwy. 29 South.
