Woman charged with striking boyfriend
A weekend fight between a couple at a home on Stapler Road resulted in one arrest.
Samantha Latia Moon, 27, 117 Stapler Road, Athens, was charged with a single count of battery after she allegedly struck her boyfriend in the face during an argument that began at a club.
According to the incident report, Moon had been drinking while the two and some friends were at a club. The pair had begun arguing after he commented on the amount she had to drink. A witness said that Moon did strike her boyfriend.
When the deputy questioned those present about a jeep that had run into the house – they stated that the vehicle had been left in neutral and had “just rolled into the house.”
Moon was transported to the Madison County Jail.
In another incident, a Comer man was arrested after he allegedly struck his wife during a domestic altercation.
James Brent Crider, 54, 1591 Coile Road, was charged with simple battery FVA and interfering with a 911 call.
According to the incident report, deputy Gary Floyd responded to the Crider residence after Mrs. Crider called 911. Mrs. Crider said her husband pushed her around and then slapped her. When she tried to call 911, he broke the phone and then twisted her arm behind her back. She said she was able to piece the phone back together and call 911.
Deputy Floyd noted that she had scratch marks on her right arm. Crider admitted that he slapped his wife in the face with an open hand, but also said that she pulled a gun on him after he slapped her. She denied touching the gun. The weapon was seized at the scene and placed into evidence.

•Someone allegedly sent threatening text messages to a man on Evangelical Church Road.
•Someone reportedly stole approximately $100 in coins and change from a beer bottle in a home on Minish Road.
•A deputy spotted a 13-year-old girl riding her bike in the middle of the highway on Hwy. 29 South near Booger Hill Road. She was transported to her home and turned over to her mother.
•Two unlocked vehicles were broken into on Buddy Moore Road last week.
•Someone on Davis Street reported that two cars and a barn on the property were broken into overnight. A purse, books and book bags, and a rod and reel were among the items taken.
•A woman and her 2 year old were reported missing last week. The woman’s mother said she feared for their safety since her daughter had made comments about wanting to harm herself.
•Battery and criminal damage to property were reported on Spratlin Way during a domestic dispute between father and son.
•A 15-year-old boy was reported missing from his Bryant Court home.
•A stereo was reportedly stolen from a car on Hannah Heights Trail.
•Someone broke the window of a car with a golf ball on Hwy. 29 South.
•Someone reportedly “egged” a school bus parked in a driveway on Abercrombie Circle. The bus driver reportedly said this is the third time this has happened.
•A counterfeit $50 bill was reportedly used to purchase items at Ingles grocery store.
•A woman allegedly called another woman she had been ordered by a judge to stay away from. When the victim reminded her that she was not to contact her, the caller reportedly said that she did not care and that she “knew where she lived and would come and kick her @##.”
•A man on Jack Sharp Road called police to report that his live-in girlfriend had pulled his shirt and hit him while he was sitting in a car the two were fighting over possession of. The man admitted that his girlfriend was also angry about dirty pictures on his computer. The man said he did not want to press charges, he only wanted the title to his car back. The woman then produced a title to the car showing that her mother owned it. She further stated that she was pregnant with his child and had indeed struck him after he kept “running his mouth at her,” and that he left her alone after that. The man was advised of the warrant process and to stay away from the residence.
•A firearm was reportedly stolen from the top of a refrigerator at a home on Stapler Road.
•Cruelty to children was reported on Evangelical Church Road after a woman called to report that her 3-year-old son had bruising on his chest and back, one in the shape of a hand, following a visit with his father.
•A man found unresponsive in a vehicle in the parking lot of Black’s Creek Church was taken by EMS to a hospital after a deputy was called to a suspicious vehicle parked at the church.
•A woman on Jot-Em-Down Road reported that her medications, along with a money order that had been stashed in her Bible, had been stolen from her home.
•A woman on Hwy. 29 South reported that her son was missing when he did not get off the school bus. The boy was later found at this father’s home in Franklin County.
•Terroristic threats and acts were reported on Hwy. 72 West in Tranquility Mobile Home Park after a man said another man came to his house and told him he was going to “burn his house down and beat his @%$.” The man said the perpetrator is allegedly infatuated with his girlfriend and wants to be with her.
•Financial transaction card fraud was reported on Sherwood Circle.
•A woman reported that someone she knows has used her personal information to obtain a cell phone and other items online.
•A woman on Fernwood Drive reported that someone has called and threatened her over two dogs that she is caring for. The woman said she agreed to care for the dogs after their owner passed away, but that now the owner’s daughter wants the dogs back and she is afraid they won’t be cared for. The daughter’s husband allegedly called and threatened to “come over with a gun and take the dogs back.”
•Reckless conduct was reported on Fernwood Drive when a deputy was called to do a welfare check on children at a home there. According to the report, the deputy found three juveniles that were left home alone. One, a 12-year-old female, told the deputy that her two younger brothers wouldn’t come inside and had been physically abusive to her. A DFCS worker ordered the children turned over to their grandmother.
•Criminal trespass was reported on McGinnis Chandler Road when a woman told a deputy that someone was living on property owned by her mother. According to the report, the land is undeveloped farmland with a cemetery on the property. The deputy found a Toyota Camry and a camping tent with numerous bags of personal items. No people were located. The woman was told she could have the car removed on her own and she said she was going to give the owner 24 hours to leave.
•Driving while license withdrawn and a light violation were reported on Hwy. 106 at Williams Wilson Road.
•A white male in an older model pickup truck reportedly drove off without paying for $5 worth of gas at Quick Pick in Colbert.
•A Stihl weedeater was reportedly taken from a shed behind a home on Hwy. 72 East.
•Golf clubs were reportedly stolen from the bed of a pick up truck parked in a yard on Dogwood Drive.
•A domestic dispute was reported between a couple on O’Kelley Road. According to the report, the man stated that the woman would not let him sleep and hid his cell phone.
•Terroristic threats and acts were reported on Wesley Chapel Road when a woman came to the sheriff’s office to report that a man she knows told her brother that he was going to “put a bullet between her eyes.” A female friend of hers, who is a former girlfriend of the perpetrator, also received a message on her answering machine from the man who stated that he was going to “run her off the road and kill her.” The woman was advised of the warrant process.
•Harassing phone calls were reported on Pine Valley Farm Road when someone reportedly left a man a voicemail message on his phone stating that he was an uncle of his soon-to-be ex-wife’s and threatened to “come and whip (the man’s) @$$.”
•Battery was reported on Hwy. 29 South when a woman said she was assaulted by a female friend that she has been staying with. According to the report, the incident began when the woman’s daughter opened a door and accidentally struck her in the wrist with the door knob. The woman said she yelled because it hurt and that the girl’s father began yelling at her and throwing her belongings at her. At that point, the girl’s mother (victim’s friend) allegedly jumped on her from behind, striking her with a closed fist and burning her with a curling iron. The victim had bruises on both upper and lower arms, as well as a black eye. Scratches on an arm were attributed to a fork she said her friend had scratched her with. The warrant process was explained to her.
