Couple arrested for loitering, drug possession
A rendezvous turned ugly for a couple recently after their car got stuck in the mud and they ended up in jail.
Ricky Alan Whitehill, 48, of 966 Hwy. 98 East, Danielsville, was charged with obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers, possession of marijuana and loitering. Also arrested was Cimmeria Khitai Griever, 29, 1005 Hull Road, Athens, for possession of marijuana and loitering.
According to the incident report, deputies were summoned to Hardman Morris Road after a woman reported that a blond-haired white woman was knocking on her door around 8:30 p.m. saying she needed to use the phone and that she wasn’t going to hurt them. A man was spotted standing out in the yard. Deputy Chad Parr located the man, identified as Whitehill, who told him he and a woman had walked from the trailer park to the store to buy beer and that he was now looking for the woman (Griever). Parr later found a white Volvo with a busted windshield stuck in a ditch near the woodline. The car came back registered to Whitehill. Parr then questioned Whitehill again, who at first said “please tell me she (Griever) didn’t wreck my car.” Whitehill was taken back to the car, where a search produced two bags of marijuana. Whitehill then admitted that the reason the car was back there was that he and Griever were going to have sex, but then the car got stuck. Griever was later found at another location, questioned, and charged.
In another arrest, a Danielsville man was charged with family violence last week after a deputy was called to his home multiple times in a single evening.
Douglas Bruce Benton, 29, 720 Holloway Road, was charged with one count each of battery FVA and cruelty to children in the third degree.
According to the incident report, Deputy Klint Segars was summoned to the home twice on April 5, to be told that the domestic dispute was over and that there had been on physical altercation. Deputy Segars was called back a third time, where he found Benton sitting on the front porch, intoxicated. He once again told the deputy that everything was fine, they were just having an argument. Segars placed Benton in the back of his patrol car while he interviewed the woman, who said that Benton returned home and continued to be verbally abusive towards her, threatening to hurt her if she attempted to call 911. The argument woke her 7-year-old daughter, who witnessed the exchange. At some point, Benton allegedly grabbed her hand, knocking her cell phone to the floor. Deputy Segars noted that she had a cut across her thumb. Benton was then charged and taken to jail.
In a third arrest, a Commerce man was arrested last week after an altercation at his ex-wife’s home on Martin Griffeth Road.
James Howard Minish, 50, 2034 N. Broad Street, was charged with terroristic threats and acts, obstruction and possession of a firearm or knife during certain crimes.
According to the incident report, Minish was outside the residence making threats. A pistol was also located and seized as evidence.
