Teen arrested after fleeing deputy on motorcycle

Christopher Justin Mathis, 19, 19 Eugene Hardman Road, was charged with one count each of speeding and fleeing or attempting to elude.

According to the incident report, Deputy Jeff Strickland clocked Mathis with his radar going 108 mph in a 55 mph zone. The motorcycle reportedly sped up when Strickland tried to initiate a traffic stop, reaching 135 mph. The motorcycle allegedly passed several cars on Hwy. 98 between Ila and Danielsville at Furnace Creek Road. The motorcycle eventually pulled over at Roger’s Mill Road after a second deputy joined the chase. The driver (Mathis) was placed in handcuffs and taken to jail.

In another arrest, Vance Patrick Dawson, 41, 2680 Lane Creek Road, Bishop, was charged with weaving over roadway and DUI/alcohol after he reportedly crashed his car on Hwy. 172 Sunday evening.

According to the incident report, Deputy Klint Segars responded to a single-car crash in which the car had traveled down an embankment. Segars found Dawson, who appeared to be intoxicated, standing by the driver’s side door. A man, who also appeared intoxicated, came down the embankment and a woman then came out of the back of the vehicle and fell to the ground, her head bleeding. Both the man and the woman admitted during questioning that Dawson was driving when the accident occurred. Dawson continued to deny that he was the driver, though he had the keys in his pocket. He told deputy Segars that it was a spare set of keys and that a friend of theirs they called “bud” had been driving and was picked up by someone in another vehicle before officers arrived.

Dawson was transported to jail.

•Dennis Eugene Boswell, 37, 1931 Hwy. 191, Danielsville, was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance and driving while license withdrawn after he stopped for a suspended license during a sobriety safety check. An off-white substance, which tested positive for cocaine, was allegedly found in his vehicle.

•Rico Cortes Adams, 32, 29 Washington Drive, Athens, driving while license withdrawn, removing or affixing license plate with intent to conceal or misrepresent, open container, head/taillight requirements and no tag.

•Gettis Brad Allen, 26, 310 Ayers, Royston, two counts of probation violation.

•Jerry Christopher Angel, 32, 186 Alexander Road, Commerce, probation violation.

•Charles Richard Atcheson, 23, 820 Sims Bridge Road, Commerce, burglary and three counts of forgery in the first degree.

•Wanda Bernetta Aycock, 44, 260 Pittard Road, Athens, probation violation.

•Ryan Cole Blalock, 18, 2284 Shoal Creek Raod, Colbert, possession of marijuana less than an ounce. (Danielsville PD).

•Kelley Michelle Brown, 28, 12 Sulphur Springs, Winterville, prescription drugs must be kept in their original containers and possession of marijuana less than an ounce. (GSP)
