Man causes disturbance in Colbert
Criminal trespass and entering an auto were reported on Hardman Morris Road and Madison Street in Colbert recently.
According to a report from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a man told an officer that someone had broken into his pickup at his home on Hardman Morris Road and then jumped the fence along the driveway and fled on foot. The man said the offender, a Hispanic male, took his CD player from his pickup. The player was found on the ground beside the truck, damaged. The victim said the incident began when he heard a knock on his door and opened it to find the man standing on his front porch. After a brief exchange, the man turned and began walking away with the victim following him. The victim said he lost him when he jumped the fence.
As the officer was speaking with the first victim, a second officer was dispatched to nearby Madison Boulevard in reference to a Hispanic male entering a residence without permission. A woman at the residence told the officer that the offender had fled out the back door just prior to his arrival. A search began and a neighbor said he spotted the man running through his yard back towards Hardman Morris Road. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect. The woman told the officer that she heard a noise at her back door and got out of bed to investigate. When she came out of bedroom she reportedly ran into the offender, standing in her laundry room. The man reportedly said, “I just need somewhere to sleep.” The woman said she picked up a chair and told the man to leave and he fled out the back door. The man was said to be about five feet tall, heavy set with extremely short hair and wearing khaki shorts and no shirt.
