Man charged after threatening woman
A Colbert man was arrested recently after he allegedly held a machete to a woman’s throat and threatened to “chop her head off.”
Willie Lee Smith, 64, 1140 Buddy Moore Road, was arrested on one count of aggravated assault. Officers were summoned to the home when the woman called 911 and a man’s voice could be heard telling her to hang up before the line went dead.
According to the incident report, Deputy David Kidd found the woman, who told him she has lived with Smith for the past eight years, sitting in a chair in the front room of the house. The woman said Smith had been drinking for three days and that they had argued that day because he was mad at her for “messing up a pot of rice and for not changing out the cricket box and the minnow water.” She said Smith choked her and then held the machete to her throat and threatened her. Deputy Kidd noticed a bleeding cut to the woman’s neck just below her jaw line. She told the deputy that Smith had went out the back door. A second officer found Smith in a wooded area behind the home, where he was arrested.
The victim reportedly stated repeatedly that she is afraid of Smith and fears that he will kill her as soon as he gets out of jail. Deputy Kidd explained that she would be notified before Smith is released.
Others arrested by the sheriff’s office included:

She said the whole thing started when he picked her up because her vehicle had a flat tire. She told the officer that she was finally able to get Swan to take her to her niece’s home that morning and that she then went to a doctor to get her injuries (a black right eye with a cut above it) documented.
