Madison County commissioners signed a proclamation promoting organ donation in Madison County recently.
The proclamation for National Donate Life Month recognizes organ donation as “one of the most meaningful gifts that a human being can bestow upon another.” It notes that more than 106,000 people in the U.S., including 3,100 in Georgia, await organ transplants, with a new person added to the list every 11 minutes. An estimated 18 people die daily due to the lack of available organs. The proclamation notes that 12,170 Madison County citizens have registered as organ donors.

In other business during a very brief BOC meeting April 21, commissioner Mike Youngblood praised the industrial development authority for taking care of water quality issues at W indsor Heights Subdivision. He said residents of the subdivision are pleased with the action the IDA took to provide cleaner water to the neighborhood. Commissioner Bruce Scogin added that the industrial authority’s extension of water lines into the Colbert area helped the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department earn a lower ISO rating than it would have without those water lines in place. He said this helps lower insurance premiums for those in the Colbert area.
The board approved Pat Herndon to the library board of trustees. The group agreed to allow recreation department director Dick Perpall to open a proposal for lighting at the lower field at Mize Park. The BOC agreed to name Scottie Edwards to the Oconee River and Conservation Board. The board heard from Scogin, who said the road department suggested putting a reflective chevron sign in a dangerous curve on Colbert-Danielsville Road near Colbert. The board heard from Youngblood, who suggested the county post speed limit signs on the following roads: Willis Glenn Road, 45 mph.; Sanders Road, 45 mph.; Stone Creek Road, 35 mph.; Strickland Circle, 35 mph.; Moon’s Grove Road, 45 mph.; and Snow Farm Road, 35 mph.
