I was on the scene, and can tell you that the county is fortunate to have such dedicated professionals serving and protecting its citizens. Dog fighting is about as cruel an activity as there is, and it brings into communities dangerous criminals and various other forms of organized crime, including gambling, drug dealing, corruption, and violence. No one’s pet dogs are safe from being stolen in an area where dogfighters need canines to train their fighters on.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department has performed a wonderful public service in keeping our community safe from such dangers that represent a potential threat to all our citizens, and in making it clear that it will not tolerate such lawbreaking.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is proud to have been able to provide the information that led to the raid, via our tip line, 877-TIP-HSUS, and we thank Norred and Associates Security and Investigations for their diligent work. We want the citizens of Georgia to know that we offer up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to dogfighting convictions. And the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association offers an additional $5,000.
The new law, originally introduced by Senator Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock), makes it a felony to own, possess, train, transport or sell a fighting dog. Thanks to everyone involved in this raid, which should send a clear message to criminals thinking of getting involved in dogfighting: stay out of Madison County!
Sincerely,
Cheryl McAuliffe
