LETTER: The bridge that united Madison County

My husband and I are Mr. and Mrs. Preston Bounds. We are property owners on Brown Hendrix Road. We and the county have been in a long-standing controversy over two road closings and replacing the bridge on Sam Bruce Road.

Shame, shame on you! For degrading commissioner John Pethel and anyone else for standing for what is right!

It has become an act of defiance against one man. Mr. Pethel has represented our community with kindness, understanding, truth and, above all, honesty. Mr. Pethel follows the Constitution of the United States and the laws of the state of Georgia in deciding cases brought before the commission. He is a person who can’t be bought for a few drinks and a few dollars under the table. He has an understanding that a few people cannot violate the civil rights of others in the community because of their petty wants.

In response to the meeting of the egg-processing facility, that agenda was called before the board for discussion before the closing of Sam Bruce and Brown Hendrix Road.

The people that remained in the meeting were there for the decision on closing of these two roads. The majority were in favor of keeping the roads open. The petition signed by a large number of Madison County residents was also presented to the board against closing the two roads.
Irrepressible irritation is what this situation has become to the people of Madison County and the government of Madison County. The situation has been brought up for discussion before the commission numerous times and without conclusion.

To act on his own behalf and his own judgment, he has come up with the so-called self-entitled Ginn Hill Land and Homeowners Association and Sam Bruce Road.

What association? Persons gathered together and led by one person came up with a title to impress themselves. This is the county’s newest joke!

Besides a hearse being parked in front of the old courthouse square to gather votes — disrespect, degrading the dead on a day that was meant for a new beginning to vote with pride for our leaders.

Mr. Pethel and Mrs. W.S. Pethel have been harassed enough! And I can say he and his wife, as well as many others in the community, believe in our Lord and Savior and know the words of Proverbs that speak of a vile tongue, lies and actions of wrong doing against others. We will all face God one day and answer for our actions and words.

Some people are dealing with the devil himselfy. They think that power and money are all they need to survive and have no concern for others around them. But, the truth will stand, even if the world is on fire!

Neither my husband nor I will partake in the closure of Brown Hendrix Road and is someone wants to violate our civil rights, then we will proceed to leave legal action to the courts. If people have forgotten the Constitution of the United States, go back and read it again.

My prayers go out to Mr. and Mrs. Pethel for all the comments and degradation he has taken. My husband and I stand by Mr. Pethel for being an outstanding man. He has been great for our community and has stood by many of Madison County’s residents.
