Dear Editor:

I had the good fortune of being invited to the Miss Madison County High School Pageant and the experience left me beaming with pride.

I was so proud of the fact that the talent competition included Christian songs and Christian skits. I sat there thinking, this could not happen in a lot of places but it can and does in Madison County.

I have lived in this wonderful county for almost 12 years and am so full of pride over the fact that this is a God-fearing, down to earth, wonderful place to raise children. This county has families who raise their kids with morals, values and firm beliefs in God. I have noticed the well-mannered young people who work in our local businesses and it makes me feel so proud to live here.

In these troubled times, it is only God that can help us. So many parents these days don’t take the time to teach their children anything, but it is evident in Madison County, people take parenting very seriously. I have one grandchild being raised here and I am so grateful for the commitment here to God and the strong religious beliefs that prevail in our county. I was so moved by what I saw at the Madison County High School Pageant that I had to write and say — Keep up the great work Madison County. We have a wonderful group of young people and I am so proud to call this my home.

The writer is correct that God can help us, however, we are obligated to ask for that help.

Government must not be confused with God. People must be aware that the legal and policy roles of government are established to provide a framework for harmonious living in secular terms. To the extent that people provide input to rules of government, and that those people may enlist God to help them make wise recommendations, one can infer God's help to government.

To blur the distinctions between God and government is to introduce confusion as to the consequences of conscious violation of rules, those of God or government.

I have always been proud of the teachers and the leadership my children had while going through the Madison County school system.

Evidently, in Madison County, you can be the nicest person in the world, but if you don't believe in a Christian god, you can't possibly be a good and worthwhile person. No matter how generous of your time and money, no matter how caring and helpful, no matter how respectful and empathetic of others, you simply cannot be an acceptable person.

I agree ! It is GREAT to see a school function or any type of function ,government ,or anything when they uplift JESUS CHRIST ! I am 100% sold out to JESUS & a frim believer in morals & values which is something the Government is falling short on these days
I was also able to preach a sermon at a Ga school last year to the football team it was great we had a blast just a reminder that GOD is still in control , Blessed & Highly Favored
it was great the principle , coach & the ladies in the office all where born again christians & not afraid to tell the world
JESUS SAVES !!!!!

There was also one skit that referenced Islam. I was especially proud of this bright young student.

Never thought I would see the day when Gay Pride was referenced and praised in a Madison County paper.I'm proud of you, too. You've come a long way, Madison County!
