A Colbert couple was taken into custody recently following a domestic dispute at their home on Strickland Circle.
Joni Jean Thomason, 43, and Travis James Thomason, also 43, of 562 Strickland Circle, were each charged with one count of simple battery.
According to the report, deputy Wesley Bryant found the couple sitting on the porch, intoxicated. When Bryant asked what had been happening, Mr. Thomason said “it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.” Both had apparently gotten into a verbal argument while drinking and started shoving each other. This scenario was corroborated by a witness. Bryant was unable to determine who the primary aggressor was, so both were arrested.
In another arrest, Shantydra La Ta Arnold, of 184 Alberta Drive, Colbert, was charged with disorderly conduct last week after deputies were dispatched to her home regarding a fight in progress.
Officers arrested Arnold after she refused to obey orders to calm down and became more and more verbally abusive towards her mother. The grandmother said she had called 911 when she realized they could not control Arnold after she and a female cousin got into a verbal argument that turned into a fight.
Other arrests on file at the sheriff’s office this week included:
•A Hull man was arrested last week following a domestic dispute. Tommy C. Riggins, 62, 5657 Hwy. 29 South, Lot 11, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct after a neighbor called to report a disturbance. According to deputy Michael Moore, Riggins was allegedly arguing with his son because he was “29 years old and didn’t have a job.” After repeatedly asking Riggins to lower his voice, he was placed into custody.
•Joseph Mathew Collins, 53, 3092 Cherokee Road, Comer, was charged with DUI/alcohol after deputies were summoned to Cherokee Road regarding a disorderly drunk person. Collins’ vehicle was found stuck sideways on the shoulder of the road at a creek. After about five minutes, the officer saw the offender (Collins) walking down the center of the road, stumbling. He admitted that he had drank alcohol and that he had been driving the vehicle. His daughter, who had asked a neighbor to call 911, told the officers that she had tried to hide Collins’ car keys and that he had almost run her over. She had also witnessed his vehicle run off the roadway.
•Mason Eugene Allen, 30, 3032 Hwy. 29 South, Colbert, two counts of deposit account fraud/bad checks and a probation violation.
•Donald Griffith Beasley, 45, 3827 Smithonia Road, Comer, DUI/alcohol.
•Cunen Kenitta Bolton, 32, 111 Bolton Drive, Hull, probation violation.
•Dennis Eugene Boswell, 37, 1931 Hwy. 191, Danielsville, seat belt violation and driving while license withdrawn. (GSP)
•Toria Tenae Brewer, 30, 3218 Friendship Church Road, Danielsville, battery FVA.
•Daryl Scottie Buggay, 41, 26 Hwy. 174, Danielsville, was charged with pedestrian under the influence after a deputy found him lying on the shoulder of the road at Hwy. 174 and Hwy. 106 North. When the officer asked him why he was lying there, his response was that he was “just resting.”
•Amanda Dawn Cooper, 28, 235 Sycamore Drive, Athens, probation violation.
•Jeffery Hoyt Couch, 38, 164 Northwood Circle, Colbert, theft by taking and unlawful conduct during a 911 call.
