Students from Madison County elementary schools in Colbert, Comer and Hull-Sanford fielded questions about twenty books during the annual Battle of the Books competition Thursday, May 13, at Comer Elementary School.
Fourth and fifth grade champions from each elementary school competed against each other, earning points for questions answered correctly about a book’s plot, setting, or characters.
The competition was organized and hosted by county media specialists Patricia Carey (Comer Elementary), Jocelyn Deal (Colbert Elementary), and Teresa Minish (Hull-Sanford Elementary). “I am so proud of how well all of our contestants did in the competition,” said Carey. “It is great to see students get excited about books, especially the books that that they might not normally read.”
Fourth graders from Mary Ellen Coggins’ homeroom at Comer Elementary claimed the county championship after a close round of play.
Fifth grade students from Maggie Cowne’s homeroom at Colbert Elementary claimed the county championship.
