Danielsville man charged with pedestrian under the influence
A Danielsville man was arrested recently after witnesses reported a “white male staggering in the roadway” in Ila.
Daryl Scottie Buggay, 41, 260 Hwy. 174, was charged with pedestrian under the influence of alcohol.
According to the incident report, the responding officer was told by witnesses that the man had just walked into a field at the corner of Pine Street and Hwy. 106 North. After spotting the man, the officer ordered him to come and speak with him but the man (Buggay) refused, and began to talk on his cell phone. The deputy noted that Buggay had extreme trouble standing and walking, his speech was slurred and he was belligerent. While transporting Buggay to jail, the officer reported that he became irate and violent, and said he was going to break the window out of the patrol car. After refusing to comply with detention officers once at the jail, Buggay was placed in a restraint chair.
In another arrest, two men were charged after they reportedly broke into a man’s home on Garnett Ward Road.
Matthew Blake Hardigree, 20, 1191 Twelve Oak Circle, Watkinsville, and Christopher Travis Tillman, 18, 1576 Garnett Ward Road, Hull, were each charged with one count of criminal trespass and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. Tillman was also charged with simple assault.
According to the incident report, the victim said he was sleeping when he was awakened by the sound of breaking glass. When he went to investigate, he found Tillman, whom he recognized from the neighborhood, standing on a cinder block looking through a broken window and the other man (Hardigree) standing nearby. He told them he was going to call the police and at that point Tillman allegedly picked up a rocking chair and threw it at the victim. Both suspects then fled on foot. The victim pointed out the direction that the two had run and officers went next door where a man told them the two had been there and had run out the back door when they saw law enforcement. Hardigree was located lying in the field at the edge of the wood line. Tillman later turned himself in at the sheriff’s office. He told officers he had waded out into a pool behind the house and hid under the dock to avoid being caught.
In a third arrest, two men were arrested recently after allegedly trying to drop off a Pepsi drink machine/cooler as scrap at Athens Auto Wrecking.
Danny Kaye Thrasher, 56, 279 Rock Springs Court, Athens, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, driving while license suspended and no proof of insurance, and his companion, Robert Louis Davis, 56, 270 Hawthorne Ext., Athens, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property (felony).
According to the incident report, an officer was dispatched to Athens Auto Wrecking after the men offloaded the suspicious item. A man who owns a business on West Old Broad Street said the machine was his and that this is the second drink machine he has had stolen. He said he put simplex/roofing nails in the driveway to his business to ward off possible thieves. When he found the second machine missing he went to Athens Auto Wrecking to inquire about anyone coming in and noticed that nails matching the description of the ones he placed in his driveway were in the truck with the drink machine. The driver, Thrasher, told officers he found the drink machine by the side of the road.
