An Athens man was charged last week with DUI and other traffic violations after Deputy David Kidd pulled him over for speeding near Ila.
Fernando Colin Bernal, 23, 1465 Hwy. 29 Lot 7, was also charged with two counts of DUI/endangering a child under age 14, driving without a license, speeding and child restraint law (seat belt).
According to the incident report, Deputy Kidd spotted the car going at a high rate of speed in the city limits of Ila. When pulled over, the deputy noticed that there were two children in the car and two passengers. One of the children was unrestrained. There were also two chickens in the car. Bernal said he had no license and had only been in Georgia for six months.
Bernal was transported to jail and the women, children and chickens were taken home by another deputy.
