11-year-old boy drives recklessly on Hwy. 29
A reckless driver believed to be a juvenile was reported on Hwy. 29 South recently.
A caller reported that the child was “driving all over the roadway.” Deputy Chris Guest pulled the vehicle over at Clarke Circle where he discovered an 11-year-old boy in the driver’s seat. The child told Guest his name, but little else.
Dispatch reported that the car was registered to his aunt in Lawrenceville and she was contacted. She and the child’s mother came to the sheriff’s office to meet with deputies. While they were on their way, the boy, still hesitant, told them he had run away from home because his mother “beat him with a belt.”
Officers noted that the boy had obvious belt marks on his lower left leg. DFCS was called to meet with the child and the caseworker took photos of the injuries. Once the aunt and mother arrived, they were interviewed together because the mother could not speak English. The mother said she believes the child ran away from home because he was angry that no one would take him to Walmart. No charges were filed against the juvenile and DFCS will continue its investigation, according to the report.
