Madison County commissioners approved 2010 tax rates Aug. 2, with county property owners asked to pay basically the same overall amount as last year to fund county services.
The county tax rate for the unincorporated areas (not within cities) was set at 11.58 mills, the same rate as in 2009, while the incorporated rate (inside cities) was shaved slightly from 12.156 to 12.129 mills.
Overall, the county government expects to take in $7.6 million in property taxes, up $40,826, or half a percent, from last year. That slight revenue increase follows declines the previous two years that totaled $167,000. Madison County’s tax digest — overall county property value — decreased in 2008 and 2009 from a peak of $681.7 million in 2007 to $672 million in 2009. But the digest increased by roughly half a percent in 2010 to $676 million.
County leaders are planning to get tax bills to property owners this fall, with payments due before the new year.
Ironically, your bill sounds a little LOW. I would be quiet if I were you. You might draw enough attention to have to pay your FAIR SHARE.
