Toxicology reports expected within 2-3 weeks; prescription drugs found at the scene

Autopsies of two people found dead in a pine thicket off Hwy. 106 Sunday revealed no evidence that the deceased were homicide victims.

“There was nothing to indicate foul play,” said Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Jim Fullington.

Tammy Marie Denmark, 39, Lyons, and Timothy Lee Sorrow, 31, Pine Street, Ila, were both found dead in a wooded area about a mile north of Hull-Sanford Elementary School.

The two were last seen alive walking on the side of the road around 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Fullington said.

Investigators found various prescription drugs from the home of one of Sorrow’s relatives with the deceased. The relative’s home was burglarized in Clarke County Friday.

Authorities will now wait for the completion of toxicology reports, a process that may take two to three weeks, as they try to piece together how Sorrow and Denmark died.

The two deceased were found between 30 and 50 yards off Hwy. 106. Their bodies were between 15 and 20 yards apart.

According to Captain Mike Benner of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a man in a Roto Rooter pick up truck traveling along Hwy. 106 just after 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon spotted what he thought was an orange construction cone in the edge of a planted pine thicket near the road.

He reportedly told law enforcement he collects the cones, so he turned around and went back. When he approached the orange object he discovered the bodies of a white male and a white female. The “orange object” he spotted from the road was the male’s shirt.

The two deceased had criminal histories. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Denmark served time for several crimes in Toombs County. She was convicted on two counts of credit card fraud, forgery in the first degree, credit card theft, possession of narcotics and motor vehicle theft.

Sorrow served time for crimes committed in Jackson County, including motor vehicle theft and two counts of burglary.

Yes, I am Tammie's sister. All this arguing is ridiculous. There is no one to blame, no one could have done anything. God wanted her home and so he came and got her. He took her hand and walked her up to The Promised Land. Thanks to everyone who have sent their condolences. And to the other family my prayers are with you. I hear of reports that they were seen walking, well did any one notice that they may have needed a ride or medical help. If someone in my neighborhood was seen more than once walking in the same day you bet I would have asked if they needed something, or at least notify the police that they may need to check things out. Come one people where is your concern? It could have been your child, sister or cousin. Just imagine what one minute, one question, one concern would have mattered...

What all of you are missing in this is that it is not against the law to walk down a public highway! And these people were obviously going to pains to not be seen, i.e. they were well off the highway. If they were in distress they could have tried to flag someone down. But then drugs can make you act irrational but this is not readily apparent to a passerby, so like the one perso;n said. Intervention should have been from those closest to them and showing concern after the fack is transferenec of guilt but knowing that doesn't make losing them any easier. The family has my condolences!

If either one of the people that were found happened to have been one of your cousin's, I believe you would have felt differently. I do understand that people don't stop for people that are walking down the road anymore. I don't unless I know them. You are right about not knowing what can happen if you pick up someone walking down the road. It isn't safe anymore, but if anyone of the people that was reported seeing them walking up and down the road had of just reported it to the law officials. It may have just saved their lives. But we will never know now will we.

people walk up and down the roads everyday,it doesn't mean that there is something wrong with them. From what I have read in the paper..they could have been on drugs,and with the temperture in the
upper 90's and with no water,I'm not surprised. I don't

I'm very sorry for the loss of both families. However, I have to agree with this comment. These days you can't take unnecessary chances. Yes, we could call call the police, but come on? Unless you can visually tell that the person is in distress, why would you make that call? There are so many people walking down streets everyday. Many, many drug addicts walk the streets because the drug their on won't let them sit still so they walk. Both of these people were adults. They could have called the police themselves or waved down an officer if they felt they needed assistance. I pray the families find the peace and strength they need to get through this difficult time. Pray to God and ask for his guidance and you will make it through.

It's a testimony to the world we live in that no one feels comfortable helping a stranger. But in reality, could it be said that because of the caliber of person, everyday working folks feel ill-at-ease to take the responsibility for those who take so little responsibility for themselves? Perhaps the public at large is not to blame for the loss your family is suffering and your hostility is somewhat misplaced.

Before you try to pin this on anyone else ANGRY COUSIN if they hadnt put themselves in the situation in the first place they would not have anything to worry about would they? And secondly if you would like to blame someone how about starting with them, what were they doing with prescription pills from a robbery obviously the whole family couldnt have been oblivious to the fact he was not clean why didnt you help him out in the past? After reading the story and seeing that they had someone elses pills in their possesion you still have the audacity to ask why no one helped them or called the police first of all if they were in the business of hanging out with people capable of robbing people or even doing it themselves then what else are they capable of? And secondly if someone would have called the cops and they were arrested for possesion you would be whining about the police bothering people while they are just walking down the road so either way no one wants to fault the victims when in fact it all leads back to them and the family is left to blame someone and they wont look in the mirror and see the truth! What happened to these two people was bad, but we all have to be responsible for ourselves. Blame doesn't need to be placed on those that had nothing to do with this incident. I find that it's a real shame that the family of these folks find it necessary to place blame for the irresponsible actions of the victims on the residents of this county. To say that we should call the police to perform welfare checks on every Tom, Dick, and Harry we see walking down the road, would lead to nothing but our law enforcement officials and 911 dispatchers facing a huge backlog of calls for folks simply out excercising or trying to save gas for crying out loud. We're all sorry to hear how their life ended, but come on - they were consenting adults, and if the evidence points to drug overdose, whose fault is that? Are we expected to keep tabs on neighbors we know follow this lifestyle in order to save them from themselves? And to throw the idea out that anyone who doesn't agree with your particular point of view needs to get in church is just what the everyday hypocrite would say. Honestly for someone to have suffered such a GREAT loss in the family as you seem to want to claim, I would think of better ways to show it than arguing on a news site's blog about how everyone should have stuck their nose in their business to save them, and maybe wishing someone would have helped them get into rehab instead. That makes no sense, the needed help because when driving by the witnesses were supposed to geuss they were on drugs and not walking for any other reason??? First of all let's get the spelling correct. "messed" is the proper spelling. Secondly, drug users can be extended help, put into rehab, and even removed from the "bad" friends that brought them down. It is ultimately up to the will power of the individual to keep themselves clean. I know that help was extended to one of those individuals. The family just fell short and the LORD decided to step in and help out. GOD BLESS both families!!

First let me say, I'm very sorry for this loss of life. My prayers will be with both familys, may GOD BLESS each and every one of you.

You know I read all this fussing about what people should have done and whos fault this was. No one could have done anything to save them and no one has blamed the right one yet. The one to blame is GOD. It was time for them both to be taken home. They just happened to be walking down the road when it happened. They could have been driving down that road and they could have had a wreck. They could have been sitting in front of the tv and a storm could have blowed the house away. They could have been in a store and someone could have came have got shot in a robbery. I can go on and on, but you understand what I'm saying.

The main thing I'm trying to say is it was both of them's time to go. Fussing and blaming others will not bring them back, I wish it could.

Also remember this, We all have a time to go. We just need to try to be as ready as we can.

Thanks to the very few people that has sympathy for the loved ones left behind. My prayers go out to the family of the woman. I personally feel your pain. I have suffered through this whole ordeal I lost a special man in my life and so as the family of the woman suffers I suffer with them. May GOD Bless those families and be with them in this time of loss and grief ....I cant help but wonder why everyone is lashing out at one another about this horrible situation and loss of life....Thank God it was not one of my family members....but it just as easily could have been. Ok, FIRST OFF... In reference to all of the idiotic chaos above.. NOBODY knows for sure what these two people died of.. It couldnt of been drugs, it could of been heat, it could have been natural causes.. NO ONE KNOWS and if you would have read the actual article, the test results for the toxicology reports will not be back until 2-3 weeks. Secondly, c'mon, seriously.. You hear crap in the news all the time about people trying to 'help others out' and pick strangers off the side of the road and end up dead in a creek somewhere...No one in their right mind would just stop and pick up/ask if they needed help if they didnt know them.. And for whoever that said something about the cops wasting gas.. If you havent noticed already, the only thing cops ever do is ride up and down the road.. The smartest thing to have done would have been to call the police and tell them to tell the 'gas saving cop' to go check out the situation. THATS THEIR JOB. I find this whole thing sad. One thing we all need to remember is that two people lost their lives for what ever reason. We don't have enough information as of yet to say exactly what happened. One thing that comes to my mind is why didn't either one try to stop the person that passed them by? You'd think that if they were in need of help, one of them would have tried to flag down a passerby It's not like this road is not well traveled.

As for the stupid comment about about our "cops" driving up and down the road" Your WRONG on that one. Do you have any idea what our deputies are doing while "driving up and down the road?" they are putting their lives in harms way to keep the citizens of Madison county safe. There is no law against walking on the side of the road. There is nothing wrong with walking on the side of the road. If you call the police and say "there's someone walking on the side of the road" they aren't going to do anything because there is no crime and nothing remotely suspicious about walking down the road.

BTW, a good person DID stop and call the police when he saw something suspicious so people ARE basically good! Unfortunately it appears they were already deceased when he found them.

With gas prices going higher and higher a lot more people are walking. We don't need to encourage people to call the police when they see people walking down the road. It's not a crime and you will only be occupying the police dispatcher's phone and precious time and you will probably cause an accident while you are dialing and driving.

Exactly - and let's not forget that this isn't some neighborhood street, either. It's a 55+ mph highway (most people fly down it going 60+) - if people even noticed someone walking, I would be surprised.

If these folks had been wandering up & down the road, back and forth, and I lived in one of the houses they were passing, I probably would have called the cops the 2nd or 3rd time I saw them. But we're talking about probably 20 families who live on that stretch of highway, and many of them may not have even been home to notice.

It's a horrible tragedy for the families and our community - you don't expect the police to be fishing bodies out of the woods in Madison County. It really shakes you up - I passed the line of cop cars and the ambulance that came out when they were retrieving the bodies, and my first thought was that someone had been murdered, which just seems unheard of out here.

So now, it seems likely to me that people *will* start calling the cops the next time they see folks walking down the road.

I don't think people were intentionally unconcerned - it seems like most people *would* call the cops if they noticed something suspicious. Unfortunately, along that stretch of highway, people walking on the road isn't that uncommon or automatically suspicious - or at least it wasn't until this happened.

It is pretty bad when the citizens of this county think
the only thing our law enforcement seem to do is ride up
and down the road. The sacrifices they and their families
make should be respected and never taken for granted.
Enough said about that it is very sad that these two
people lost their lives ! We should be expressing our
sympathy to the families greiving their loss and not trying
to lay the blame on anyone!!! Especially our law
enforcement officers who sacrifice so much already !!!

All who do not show sympathy in this matter really make me sick! You all are so childish and selfish, only thinking of yourself. It is people like you that give the rest of us a bad name and is the reason for all of us not being able to just get along. Why keep arguing about something that you can never change? Grow up and get a job!

what these families are dealing with is bad enough. to have to deal with a loved one dying with so many questions without answers is bad enough.
