Kitten found dead in mailbox on Hanley Road
Cruelty to animals was reported on Hanley Road recently when a man found a dead kitten in his mailbox.
According to the report, the kitten had been left sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning. Someone placed the kitten, along with a can of food and a cup of water into the mailbox and wired it closed with a small piece of wire.
In another incident, a Danielsville man was arrested last week on violation of a family violence order after he became disorderly and refused to leave. Scott Fitzgerald Strickland, 40, was arrested without incident. His sister-in-law said that he was yelling at her and got in her face and that’s why she called 911.
Shortly thereafter, officers were summoned back to the Hwy. 98 East residence concerning an incident with a knife. According to the incident report, Strickland’s daughter was upset that her father was arrested and stated she was coming to the residence to confront her aunt. All the doors were locked prior to the daughter’s arrival to try to keep the peace. When the daughter went to the back door of the residence, the aunt, who was allegedly intoxicated, stabbed a butcher knife through the door glass. Shards of glass struck the daughter and the aunt’s hand was hurt from going through the glass. Witness statements were taken at the scene and the aunt refused transport to the hospital.
Other incidents reported by the sheriff’s office include:
•Burglary was reported at an empty residence on Blacks Creek Church Road.
•A child was reported walking around Potts Mobile Home Park without parental supervision. A witness said the child’s mother was inside her mobile home asleep and that others in the park had been looking out for the boy, though the mother had not asked them to. The officer went to the mother’s home and woke her up. She said she must have fallen asleep by accident and that she did not know where her son was. She also stated that she works night shift and does not have a lot of help with her child. The situation was turned over to DFCS. The officer noted that this is the second time an incident of this nature has occurred with this mother.
•A blond woman in a burgundy car reportedly drove off without paying for $10 worth of gas at Royal Food Store in Ila.
•A clerk at Fred’s discovered a $100 bill being passed by a customer. The customer said she had received the bill at a package store where she cashed her unemployment check.
•A man on James Spring Road reported that someone had stolen $200 from his bathroom while he was gone. He said the money was ten $20 bills that were in two different cups.
•A man on Ed Coile Road reported that his ex-girlfriend had made fraudulent purchases on his ATM debit card.
•A handmade saddle was reportedly stolen from the front porch of a home on Hwy. 98 West.
•Two white male juveniles were transported by the school resource officer to the Madison County Jail for fighting. No charges were filed and both boys were released to their parents.
•A woman on Willis Glenn Road reported that her blood pressure medication had been stolen. She said she suspects a man who was staying with her for a while of taking the medication. She said the man is reportedly in Oklahoma traveling with the carnival. The officer found that the suspect has an outstanding warrant out of Tift County for robbery by sudden snatching.
•Copper wire and metal were taken from a scrap pile and the back of a truck at a residence on Buddy Moore Road.
•Theft by taking was reported on James Adams Road when someone reported that several turbo housing units had been taken from a business.
•A Pioneer stereo system was reportedly stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Wrigley Court.
•An unoccupied home on Hwy. 29 North was burglarized last week for the third time. An officer discovered the burglary during a home check, when he found the front and back doors open and a TV missing from the living room. The homeowner is currently living out of town, according to the report.
•A man on Cherokee Road reported that his gun had been stolen by a friend that he had allowed to stay at his home.
•A man on Hwy. 72 East reported that he believes his ex-girlfriend stabbed two tires on his pickup truck and removed the interlock device from the inside of the truck. The officer noted that the truck was unlocked and that the wiring for the interlock device appeared to have been cut with a knife.
•A man on Buddy Moore Road reported that a man he works with assaulted him, accusing him of stealing some copper from their employer. The victim stated repeatedly that he thought his back was broken. The suspect had left the scene and could not be located and the victim, whom the deputy noted was very intoxicated, was transported to St. Mary’s by EMS for treatment.
•Several items were reportedly stolen from a home on South Seventh Street.
•A woman on Bells Ferry Road reported that her husband, who she is in the process of divorcing, has been calling her and leaving threatening messages. The officer listened to two of the messages. In one, the man, sounding very intoxicated, said that if she didn’t quit, he was going to “lay her down somewhere she had never been before.” The man called a third time while the officer was there and left a message apologizing for what he had said before. The woman said her husband has a very bad drug problem and that she is afraid of him. She was advised of the TPO process.
•A woman on Hwy. 29 reported that her ex-husband had called and threatened her. She said they have been divorced for several years and that she has remarried but that they share joint custody of their son. Her residence was placed on a security check.
•A microwave, dishwasher and a heating and cooling unit were stolen from a foreclosed home on Noah’s Way. A heating and cooling unit was also reportedly stolen from the house next door.
•Broken windows were reported in three vehicles and two mobile homes and a camper on unoccupied property on Ed Coile Road.
•A man on Hwy. 29 South reported that a refrigerator, gas heater, and a dishwasher were stolen from a barn he uses for storage.
•A woman on Sunray Hatchery Road reported that her four wheeler was taken from a utility trailer in her yard.
•A man reported that his tire was spray-painted pink in the parking lot of Ingles Grocery. The initials “HR” were spray-painted on the pavement behind the vehicle. He suspected a friend of his with those initials. The officer contacted the suspect, who admitted to painting the initials but denied painting the tire.
•A man on Kellogg Drive reported that his singlewide mobile home had been burglarized while he was gone. He said he came home and found his back door open and his kitchen cabinets rummaged through and that several glass jars of coins, valued at approximately $800 had been taken. Also missing were coins from a clay pot in the living room, $1,560 in bills from a metal cup also in the living room and a five-gallon pickle jar full of an unknown amount of coins from the bedroom.
•A man on Childers Road reported that someone in a dark colored dually truck hooked to a brown Ford Ranger parked in a wooded area in front of his house and drove away with it. He said he believes that his dad had someone take the truck. He owes another man $300 on the truck, but that man said he did not take it.
•An officer was dispatched to assist animal control last week after a cat reportedly attacked a woman on Shoal Creek Road. The animal control officer said that a cat had attacked a woman and that she had been taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The cat was located in a tree in the back yard of the residence and the officer was asked to shoot the cat so that it could be sent off for rabies testing. The cat was collected and turned over to the animal control officer.
•Two suicide attempts were reported in the county.
•A four wheeler and a wood splitter were reportedly taken from a shop area of an unoccupied residence on Neese Commerce Road.
•Aggravated assault was reported on Hwy. 29 South after a Hispanic male was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with injuries which he said occurred at a residence in that area.
•A man on Hwy. 98 reported that two of his horses were missing.
•A couple on Hardman Morris Road reported that they came home to find a corner of their front porch on fire. They extinguished the fire and also found a plastic pot that had been setting on the front porch lying on the ground broken. Located on the porch near the burned area were a plastic bottle of lighter fluid and three cans of spray paint.
•Criminal trespass was reported on Hwy. 29 South at Bigger Creek MHP. Several witnesses there said a male subject with a gun and a knife had threatened someone at the mobile home park. When an officer arrived, he was told that the suspect had just fled through the woods. Other officers were told that the suspect lived on Ed Coile Road. Officers went and spoke to the person the witnesses named and determined that he had been in bed asleep when the incident took place. The witnesses were warned of the consequences of making a false report of a crime.
