Hull man arrested while visiting jail
A Hull man was arrested in the jail lobby recently after officers recognized him as a suspect in several crimes in Athens-Clarke County and Madison County.
Christopher Alan Poss, 41, 20 Stone Creek Drive, was charged with three counts of theft by receiving property stolen in another state (felony) and one count of theft by receiving stolen property.
According to the incident report, officers went into the lobby and told Poss, who was there to bring items to another inmate, that they had warrants for his arrest. During a search of his person, three blank prescription sheets were found in his wallet from two different doctors, along with a Walmart debit card with a woman’s name on the card. After Poss was arrested, the officers went outside to the car he had driven to the jail. There they found a white male and a white female passenger. The male passenger, Kevin Eaves, was determined to have felony and misdemeanor warrants out of Clarke County and arrested, according to the report. The officer noted that he also appeared to be under the influence of drugs. A search of the vehicle yielded several items believed to be stolen, including a miter saw, a black bag containing silver candle holders and bowl, a space heater, several amplifiers, a portable DVD player and wooden jewelry box containing jewelry and a prescription receipt. The owners of the various items were contacted as were the doctors’ offices. Additional warrants may be pending while the investigation continues, according to the report.

According to the incident report, the puppies’ owner said she was attempting to sell them for $150 each and that Matthew Drake came to view the puppies and said he would “get back with her.” The puppies were said to be small and barely able to walk. She later noticed that three of the puppies were missing. She said neighbors told her that M. Drake had said he had a new puppy. The officer located Drake, who said he and his friends had found the puppies on the side of the road. Two of the puppies were recovered, but a third, a white puppy with brown spots, was not found.
