Woman arrested after allegedly assaulting husband
An Athens woman was arrested recently after she allegedly assaulted her husband while he was in bed asleep.
Xiaolin Li, 58, 320 Caldwell Circle, was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act.
According to the report, when officers arrived, Mrs. Li told them that everything was fine, that she and her husband were just arguing. When they entered the residence to speak with her husband, he immediately asked them to take him to jail so he could get away from her. After being told to calm down, he told officers he was in bed asleep when his wife came into the bedroom arguing, saying she thought he was having an affair. She then began to kick and hit him with her fist. He said the only way he could keep her off of him was to hold a knife between them while he called 911.
The man did have visible red marks on his legs and bite marks on his hand.
Mrs. Li was asked several times if she had been hit and she continued to say everything was “fine,” until she was arrested and taken to jail.
Other incidents investigated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office last week include:
•An officer was called to Northwood Circle in reference to a four-wheeler tearing up the road. When he arrived he was told by two witnesses that the man on scene in a pickup truck had pointed a gun at another man on a four-wheeler as he drove away after an argument about the four-wheeler tearing up the road. All subjects were being disorderly in the officer’s presence and were advised of the warrant process and those riding the four-wheelers were warned.
•Warrants have been issued for a man and a woman after Madison County officers, along with Commerce police officers, executed a search warrant on James Spring Road last week, where they found marijuana and “Ecstasy” located inside the residence.
•Two boys were taken by the school resource officer to the Madison County Jail and released to their parents after they were reportedly wrestling in a classroom, causing a disturbance. No charges were filed, according to the report.
•A man on Hwy. 98 West came to the sheriff’s office to report three fraudulent charges on his bank account, each in the amount of $80, and all made on Sept. 11.
•A trailer and a four-wheeler were reportedly stolen from the backyard of a home on Seagraves Mill Road.
•A man on Creekwood Drive reported that his Georgia EBT card was stolen, he thinks by his ex-wife, who was at the residence earlier. He was advised to call DFCS.
•Two sisters told an officer that the locks had been changed on property they own on Roy Woods Road. They said their brother did not advise them of the locks being changed. There were also two motor homes on the property that they did not authorize to be there.
•A woman on Shaka Lane reported that someone had stolen her son’s bicycle off her porch. The bicycle is described as a green Netex BMX trick bike.
•A woman on Hwy. 98 West reported that her husband, from whom she is separated, came to her residence to try to get her back. She said he became irate when she refused and he grabbed her dress and hair. The deputy noted that she had a torn dress and scratch behind her ear. The husband had left the scene. She was advised of the TPO and warrant process.
•Burglary was reported on Bumpy Road when a man told an officer that several guns, gun cases and a rifle scope had been stolen from his home sometime within the last year.
•A man on Hills Lane reported that his ex-girlfriend had violated the TPO ordering her to have no contact with him. He said she called him and told him she “hated him, loved him and missed him.” His attorney reportedly advised him to file a report.
•A woman on Providence Church Road reported that someone had burglarized her home sometime between March 1 and Sept. 14. An old Benson bread truck, an air boat trailer, a saw and lumber were all taken from the yard. Inside an old house on the property a refrigerator, Baby Bear wood stove, a window a/c unit, two gas stoves and a cedar wardrobe were also taken.
•A woman on Maplewood Lane reported that her purse containing her medications was missing. She said she had gone to pay bills and grocery shop and that when she came home she did not have her purse. She said she looked at several locations where she had been but had not been able to locate it.
•A man on Buffington Road reported that he found the breaker box door removed from the main breaker box at a vacant property he owns. He also found copper tubing cut from under the residence to the a/c unit. He said he expects the person(s) were planning to return that night.
•An abandoned vehicle was reported on Hwy. 281. The owner stated she did not care what happened to it. It was towed.
•Someone on Hardman Morris Road reported that a trailer parked in their yard was stolen.
•Burglary was reported on Timber Ridge Lane. Several items were removed after someone broke in through a window.
•A Lincoln Towncar was found abandoned on Hwy. 29 South and towed since it presented a road hazard. The owner could not be located.
•A woman on Loop Road reported that two of her vehicles at her residence had been severely damaged. The officer noted that the seats were cut along with many other areas inside both vehicles. She had no suspects in mind.
•A woman came to the sheriff’s office to report that her credit card had been used fraudulently to pay for cell phone and cable TV service.
•A home was broken into on Neese-Commerce Road. Assorted jewelry was reported missing from a bedroom.
•A safe containing coins, silver certificates, cash, confederate money and gold rings was stolen from a home on Ninth Street. A shotgun and two pistols were also reportedly taken.
•A man on Buddy Moore Road reported that his juvenile son had sprayed carb cleaner into another person’s eye. The man said his son had been extremely hard to handle and had been in trouble at school. He advised that the victim went to the hospital for treatment. The victim also provided a written statement of the event.
•A man came home to find that two window screens had been removed and that there were fresh pry marks on the door near the doorknob. He could not find anything missing inside the house.
•Someone burglarized a storage shed behind a home on Spratlin Mill Road by prying a padlock off the door.
•Burglary was reported on Vineyard Creek Church Road after a home there was found ransacked with drawers open and items strewn about. One of the first items the homeowner noticed missing was a Desert Eagle handgun. Other items were also found missing and the victims were notified to report any other things found missing.
•An unruly child was reported at the Freshman Academy when an assistant principal said a female student told him she was not staying at school. The resource officer noted that this is the second or third time he has had to deal with this student since school started. The juvenile was transported to the sheriff’s office where she was picked up by her parents.
•An a/c unit and copper wiring were reportedly stolen from a vacant home for rent on Neese Commerce Road.
•A woman on James Lane reported that she and her boyfriend got into a fight in her vehicle after she refused to take him to Comer. According to the report, she told the officer that they had been separated for a couple of weeks when he came home and she took him to his mother’s house on James Lane. As they were leaving his mother’s house, the man asked her to take him to Comer and she refused. The man then allegedly took the keys out of the car while it was in motion and struck the victim repeatedly in the head with a beer can. The victim’s 2-year-old child was in the backseat of the car during this incident. The man left the scene before officers arrived. Photos were taken of the victim’s injuries and a statement was filled out.
•Safety check points were held on Woodale Street at Maplewood Lane and on Glenn Carrie Road at Kevin Way.
•A woman on Loggerhead Lane reported that someone unknown to her had been sending her harassing text messages. The messages threatened to kill her and her daughter. The officer attempted to call the number, which had a recording stating it was a text messaging number only. The victim was advised of the TPO and warrant process and to call if she found out who was writing the messages.
•A woman reported that her purse was taken from a shopping cart at the Dollar General in Ila. According to the report, the woman said she took items she purchased to her car in a buggy, unloaded it and inadvertently left her purse in it. She returned to the store when she realized it was missing and could not find the purse and employees said they had not had a purse turned in.
•A woman in Piedmont Park reported that her mother has been calling and harassing her. She stated that her mother and her have had altercations over personal property that is at her mother’s house in Jackson County. She stated that she had asked her mother to stop calling, but was still receiving calls from her at all hours of the day and night. She was advised of the civil and warrant process.
•A woman on Sam Swindle Road reported that a four-wheeler had been stolen from her home. A neighbor said she saw a dark-colored S-10 truck pull into her driveway and take the four-wheeler.
•A man on Cliff Griffeth Road reported that his Chevy Avalanche had been shot with a BB gun. He said a neighbor told him that kids next door had been shooting BB guns the night before. The officer contacted the parents of the children who said they had had trouble with the kids shooting their vehicles with BB guns. The parents stated they went to bed early on the night in question and did not know if the children had gone outside later that night.
•Toilet paper was reportedly stolen from the bathrooms at the recreation department. The paper holders were damaged when the paper was removed.
•A woman on Hunt Road reported that her four-ton heat pump was stolen from the back of a residence she had just purchased two days prior.
•A man on Hilley Road reported that his sister used his credit card to have Dish Network hooked up at her current residence without his consent. The victim stated he would pursue a warrant.
•A man on Clements Road reported that someone had stolen his shotgun out of the front seat of his truck parked behind his barn while his son was asleep in the back seat. The man said this was during a gathering at the barn for a dove shoot and to listen to a band. He had no suspects in mind.
•A woman on Aaron Brown Road reported that her son-in-law had sent her pornographic pictures of her daughter to her cell phone. The woman’s daughter said her husband had also called her repeatedly leaving loud cursing messages threatening to post those pictures on Facebook, and threatening to kill himself. He also reportedly threatened to keep their son. They were advised of the warrant process and the TPO process.
•Cruelty to animals was reported on Hudson Rivers Church Road after a man reported that his Bulldog mix had been shot by a neighbor. When an officer arrived, the owner showed him the dog, which was under the porch bleeding from his hindquarters. The owner asked the officer what the laws were about dogs and he was advised to call animal control. The owner’s wife said she was standing outside when she saw their neighbor standing in the edge of the woods and witnessed him shoot the dog. The neighbor’s wife said she didn’t know what they were talking about. The suspect was in his bed and denied any involvement with shooting the dog.
•A van was found wrecked along Crabapple Hollow Road last week. The vehicle was abandoned and showed no signs of the driver. A letter was found addressed to the listed owner of the van and the officer went to his residence. No one answered the door but a neighbor confirmed that the man lived there. He also said the man usually goes out drinking on Friday and Saturday nights and returns home around 2 a.m. The van was towed and at the time of the report, there had been no calls from the owner.
•A woman on Morgan Road reported that a dog tried to bite her son while he was riding his bike to church. The woman said it was an ongoing issue and that she had been in touch with animal control. She was advised to contact them again.
•A man on Northwood Circle reported that his pistol was missing after he and some friends had taken it out behind his residence to shoot it.
