Crawfordville man faces drug charges
A Crawfordville man was arrested recently on drug charges after officers were called to Strickland’s Grocery on Hwy. 29 North in reference to an intoxicated driver.
Jimmy Waimon Rutherford, 33, 506 Jennings Street, was charged with possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, DUI/drugs, possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, prescription drugs must be in their original container and four counts of sale, distribution, or possession of dangerous drugs.
According to the incident report, the first officer on scene saw a white male (Rutherford) stopped in the driveway of Strickland’s Grocery in a red Ford Focus. As he pulled in, Rutherford pulled out into Irvin Kirk Road and then onto Hwy. 29. When the officer activated his blue lights, the Focus swerved into the path of an oncoming car and then pulled back into the store parking lot and began looking for something under the seat.
When approached, he told the officer he was waiting for his wife and children who were in the store (they were not). He agreed to roadside sobriety tests, which were stopped because he was unable to complete them. He then said he would be honest and retrieved a prescription bottle out of the door pocket, which contained marijuana in a small bag. He told the officer that it was his prescription. After his arrest, he became belligerent and when the officers asked him if he knew where he was, he said he was in Madison GA at I-20. A search of the vehicle produced a number of narcotics. In the meantime, Rutherford had become violent in the back of the patrol car, kicking yelling and cursing. When the officer opened the door to check on him, he reportedly said, “%*!& you – I will &%*& you and your whole family up.”
He was taken to the Madison County Jail.
In another arrest, a Hull woman was arrested last week after an officer observed her car weaving over the road as she traveled along Glenn Carrie Road.
Melisa Dianne Culberson, 46, 7125 Hwy. 29 South, was charged with weaving over roadway, DUI/drugs and possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.
According to the incident report, officer Bradley Free noted that Culberson appeared nervous and that her eyes were glassy. Culberson gave consent for her vehicle to be searched and the search produced a prescription bottle of Lorazepam, a narcotic, with someone else’s name on it.
After Culberson was taken to jail, the female attendant reportedly found an empty pill bottle in her underclothing. She said she took the medication in the bottle to keep from being charged with it. As a precaution, Culberson was transported by EMS to Athens Regional for further evaluation.
Others arrested by law enforcement in Madison County included:
•Mark Edward McCullough, 51, of 158 Loust Drive, Bethlehem, was charged with driving while license withdrawn after he was pulled over on Hwy. 29 South due to a report of speeding and reckless driving. According to the report, McCullough told the officer that he was lost and looking for the State Patrol office so he could get his license renewed. A check of his license revealed it was suspended and that the driver was aware of the suspension and had the paperwork with him.
•George Clay Sears, 36, of 196 Blacks Creek Church Road, Danielsville, was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce and two counts of illegal possession of a Controlled Substance after he was found walking along Rogers Church Road with a companion looking for scrap metal. Marijuana was found in plain view in his vehicle and Controlled Substances were found on his person.

•April Lynn Brown, 39, 171 Herring Drive, Comer, failure to appear.

•Obadiah Durham Jr., 767 Woodale Street, Hull, driving while license suspended or revoked.
•Marshal Everson, 31, 397 Marie Court, Athens, weaving over roadway, driving while declared a habitual violator, DUI/alcohol/drugs and felony with vehicle.
•Rebecca Chancey McAlreese, 29, 92 Edward Lane, Danielsville, hold for Oconee County.
•Ruben Montanez, 38, 3430 Danielsville Road, Lot 6, Athens, DUI, weaving over roadway, improper lane change and improper backing.
•Timothy Wade Moore, 40, 9574 Hwy. 72, Hull, hold for Jefferson PD.
•Beverly Lee Parker, 24, 1000 Duluth Hwy. Apt. 102, Lawrenceville, hold for Gwinnett County.
•Jesus Gonzales Rodriguez, 31, 110 Fernwood Drive, Hull, driving while license suspended or revoked.
•Jorge Felix Rodriguez, 29, 162 Chalfont Drive, Athens, driving without a license.
