An Athens man was arrested following a slow-speed chase in Colbert last week in relation to the report of an auto theft in Comer.
Darrell Cutrer, Jr., 21, 83 Old Church Road, was charged with a probation violation (original charge: VGCSA), fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstruction of an officer, reckless driving, no insurance, probation violation and driving while license withdrawn.
According to the incident report, Deputy Mark McCarty responded to a call about the theft of a gray Buick Park Avenue allegedly stolen from Clairmont Avenue residence in Comer.
Along with a description of the vehicle, the victim told the deputy that the car had been taken by Darrell Cutrer.
Deputy Matthew Pilkington spotted the car going west on Hwy. 72 in Colbert. He then followed the vehicle, which turned onto Hardman Morris Road. At some Cutrer reportedly jumped from the vehicle and ran, leaving the car in drive. After making sure the car stopped, Pilkington gave chase. Another deputy assisted and Cutrer was found and apprehended in a field between Madison Avenue and Madison Boulevard.
Deputy McCarty noted inconsistent statements between the victim and Curtrer. The victim was advised she could seek warrants to prosecute for the reported theft.
