Dear Editor:

I know a lot of people don’t really know Roy Barnes or Nathan Deal.

I, however, have not forgotten Roy Barnes’ bid for governor before. He spoke in a public debate where he said to candidate Guy Millner, “If you were born white, you had your set aside.”

A very disturbing comment and definitely not in line with the founding principles given in the Declaration of Independence or under the Constitution. Then, once elected, he brought great controversy and division to the people over our state flag. I believe that any candidate who promotes inequality and divides us as a nation, state or county, should in no way hold any public office! Now he is not a unifier and does not promote equality for all.

Under these trying economic times because of that same progressive ideology and under affirmative action, which I choose to call “discrimitive action” and coupled with the tax incentives by the fed to hire minorities, whites are finding it even more challenging to even find work.

Also the federal law requires that if any federal funding is provided, (stimulus money, TARP etc.), we all have to pay the tax that supports that. Then whites, and even more so white males, being the only ones not on the minority list between the age of 18 to 62, are at a much greater disadvantage under those laws in all aspects of the system — the one they call our system, meaning their system, Remember the Clintonian play on words by President Bill Clinton “It depends on what your definition of is is.” Come on people have we become that complacent? Do we forget so easy? Well Roy Barnes supports all of this.

Remember, “if you were born white, you had your set aside.”

Roy Barnes also sued the state over the voter ID act. How did that help the people of Georgia prevent voter fraud? Especially with the invasion of illegal aliens and community groups like Acorn engaged in voter fraud at taxpayers’ expense. Not to mention the cost to the citizen taxpayers of all walks of life in Georgia having to pay the cost for all these things.

I know people will say they are just here looking for a better way of life. How do you know? They haven’t even been vetted into our country to know that. They have to have a SSN# to work. How are they getting that?

We might think about suspending any immigration to our country now since we don’t have the jobs for the people we have here now. It was only designed to help populate the country in the beginning when there weren’t many people here. Those who came then wanted to be Americans today with so many enemies around the world and with natural growth of the population we already have, it might just be time to end it all together.

Hey Timbo, I don't believe that there was any recomendation to vote for either .
How ever, I am not sure where you got your info
about one being a crook. Think it might have been in one of Roy Barnes Smear adds.
There has never been a conviction of any wrong doing other than that.The Non-unifier would also be my choice of one of the many factual words describing Roy Barnes. Nathan Deal has only begun to bring alot of tha facts tolite about Roy Barnes and his lies. Its America and its you VOTE ,cast for who ever you wish,but the truth is the truth no matter how you try and hide it .

Barnes? He77 no. Deal, lesser of the two evils but both are worthless. But there's one thing I know, Barnes changed my flag without giving me a voice or choice, and I will NOT vote for the liar. Deal, left congress before he was thrown out but isn't that what all congressmen do? They either 1-practice crooked economics by spending their office funds to refurbish and remodel their summer beach homes, 2-spend their office funds for Washington brothel visits, or 3-none of the above because they have standing reservations in airport stalls.

You had Handel but decided Barnes or Deal would be a better poison however you forgot that both are going to hurt.

I'll take the crook at least maybe he wont give the useless teachers a raise increase our taxes for a failing education systems so they wont have to take time off, and give them all raises so that teacher and superintendants make 100,000.00 plus dollar a year pay checks. I dont want to vote for barnes or deal but barns is def a falure he had a chance one time why give him a shot at it again. Give me a crook.

I'm poor, white, dumb and ignorant. I've got 3 kids I can't afford to feed and clothe, no insurance, no job, and can't afford college for my kids. My kids don't need no school anyway.

I'm voting for the Deal crook. I like my life just like it is...no change for me!

Party Loyalty is a big problem. Lets just vote straight party ticket and maybe they will put Osama Bin Laden on there and he can become President.

The dominating Democratic Congress just passed a Health Care Bill that has nothing much to do with Health or Care. The way it was passed was even more disconcerting.Remember Pelosi and Reid you have to vote for it to see whats in it . Is that how you want Legislation to get passed . Might as well let Monty Hall play Lets Make A Deal with your life . Do you want whats behind door number 1 door number 2 or door number 3. Maybe they should just flip a coin or put our lives in a Cracker Jack Box.

As for you air heads I know not what you will do ,but as for me I will have my Freedom Liberty and Equality (PERIOD !!!!) Some of you people need to flush out your head gear .

WE THE PEOPLE have to stand for the same thing when it comes to Country. Just as things were put in motion by the stroke of a pen ,so can they all be corrected the same way.

I have no hate for any person only their preverted actions. United we stand and divided we will fall. The government is not the anwser. It is the problem. Lincoln once said " America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves". Although he was a big progressive and not my fvorite american president as he has been hailed he did get that one right. Food for thought.

I have one question for you Ms. Republican Pride. Do you love you children? Im 21 years old, I'm currently going to college and working part-time and applying for another job! What I don't get is when someone like you comments on this and saying that you don't have a job and you have 3 children and you don't care about your children going to school! If you would quit wasting your time commenting this stuff and go find a job, and don't say there none out there because beleive me I know there is. Then you would beable to feed and clothes you children like you should be, because it was your choice when you had them not anyone else. And lastly, When you children graduate high school if they do that with an uncaring mother. There are programs at Athens technicial college that will help you children out with finacial aid, plus if they do well in high school they will be able to get hope grant too. Hope pays for everything except the staff fee and that isn't much! I could go on and on about uncaring mother like you in this county You all make me so mad that you don't care about your children! I know when I become a father one day, that I will make sure they have a better life than I. But remember It's not what you want it's what your children want!!!!!! In all my years of voting, I have never seen voter turn out like I did when Barnes was voted out of office the last time when he ran against Sonny Perdue.

The line was very long at the Hull fire dept. just minutes before the 7:00 pm deadline,with lots of old folks determined to get revenge for the Flag change, and they did. "Flaggers" as they were called.

The time was ripe for change in Georgia politics, from Democrat to Republican. Gay Marriage and Abortion Rights were the most important topics on the national scene, and the flag flap was all it took to snap these fragile minds in our state.

(Frank Gillespie lead the Flagger charge around here, for those that don't remember.)

Republicans would never have been elected in my grandfathers' Georgia. He grew up in a time when,if not for FDR, everyone in the south would have been left to starve to death. You didn't say the word "republican" around him,ever. (you remember,don't you Frank?)

That was before the Republicans started using ignorance and hate as a tool to get voters to come to their side. That's something that we can relate to around here,and it worked like a charm. Now, we have people making $20,000 a year voting for people that can spend $20,000,000 of their own cash to get elected. That's amazing, and possible all because of ignorance and hate.

Now, I see an ad on this page for a DOCTOR that is running for office as a Republican. I'm sure he has everyones best interest at heart. Or, he has the best interest of his millionaire doctor buddies at heart,which do you think?

I hear people (who aren't smart enough to spell economics) saying that they don't want to raise taxes on the top 1% of income earners by repealing the Bush tax cuts. That's just crazy! They're going home to their gated-guarded communities to live in peace and happiness,while leaving the rest of us to live in fear of one another because of the hate they have created. Meanwhile, our infrastructure(which was built with tax dollars) crumbles.

The Republicans busted the unions under the Corporate owned Reagen presidency, and sent your jobs overseas with the NAFTA agreement. Now, the middle class is almost history, and corporations are making record profits.

I don't know if we can get back on track or not. Too much damage has been done to the American mindset for the sole purpose of personal monetary gain.

Look at your 401k, the house you once owned,the car you had, THAT FREAKIN' JOB THAT IS NO MORE, and thank the Republicans for your new good life.

People need to put the hate down, it's not what we are here for. Stop letting yourselves be used by the rich, and get back to caring for one another. We won't survive any other way, and they won't really care, until they need their grass cut,or house painted.

I have never voted for a Democrat in my life,and probably never will.
I pay more in income taxes every year than 95% of people in this county earn. And, that's after lots of write offs.
I'm not "playing office",but I am sitting in one.

Tell me exactly what "foolishness" and "stupidity" you dissagree with. You spent your whole response on the misspelling of one word. Which is very typical.

To number 4 and 4.1, This is not a graded school paper. Both of you should try to ignore the misspellings and punctuations and read the heart of what the commenter has to say.

This forum is for everyone, from a 6th grade level to a PHD in English Lit.

Democrat or Republican, makes no difference. One is as bad as the other.

It seems that in order to be a "politian" these days you must be rich, have rich friends or corporate sponsors, and have no morals and have absolutely no "un"common sense.

Deal or Barnes, either way we ALL lose. It is merely a matter of which one is the worst of the two.

And it certainly isn't going to get any better because the Democrats ALWAYS blame the Republicans and the Republicans ALWAYS blame the Democrats, and most of the time the "every day" man or woman doesn't REALLY even know what his or her "party" is truly all about.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm an American, not a Democrat, not a Republican, and I can't understand why anyone wants to support either of those parties when they both are, at the best, ineffectual, and at the worst, intentionally damaging to this country.

Spelling shouldn't be the real issue, I don't think.
Anybody can make a typo.
Something even more important to remember is that we are all, for the most part, a product of Government run schools.
That might be your first clue.

I guess if you don't have any real constructive criticism ,then you have to attack a person's grammar or spelling.
That's petty.

I think folk's do that just to try and dehumanize some one because they don't like what they have to say ,but really don't have any other valid point of debate. So lets marginalizes them, make them seem like a second class citizen.

We are really only going to have a chance at real change for ourselves if we can do it through open ,honest and sincere civil discourse.
That which divides us only make's us weaker as a people. That which unite's us make's us stronger!

The more important thing should be substance ,based only in truth and fact.
I think is was Clinton that passed NAFTA ,not Reagan.

I can't speak for anyone but myself,but just because the Government and their system goes bust, sure isn't going to mean total disaster or starvation for me ,that's for sure .People were able to survive in the past without Government! So what has happened to us ?

All of FDR's New Deal Entitlements have just opened a big can of worm's. Look at the ramped fraud ,at such a high price to all working ,tax paying American's.
There has to be a better way!

I honestly don't think the answer lies with either of the two parties we have had in power for so long.
Seem's like neither of them want to except fault for where we are today.
From where I stand and how I see it ,you aren't getting anything different from either one, now day's.

So how will we get real change for a better future for us all ?
That's not a rhetorical question either. I would like to hear some real solid idea's.

Something I was told along time ago, by a person whom I believed to be very wize, was you can learn something from anybody as long as
you do not prejudge them and are willing to listen, regardless of what walk of life they are from.

You're right, Bill Clinton did sign the Nafta agreement,which was pushed thru by the Republican Senate lead by Trent Lott. Ross Perot warned us of the "giant sucking sound" of our jobs going south, but we ignored the little fellow, and let it happen anyway.
Clinton went whichever way the wind blew,and I'm sure some corporation lobbiest were easily able to grease him to make the deal. For the record; I despised him. But, he did pass welfare reform legislation and preside over a balanced budget.
I didn't go into it before because I was getting long winded enough.

I've always voted Republican (except in 1980)but I won't ever again. I won't be voting for a Democrat either.

It just rattles me to see rich people using common,average folks who get caught up in social issues, to get their way. Roy Barnes was ousted over THE FREAKIN' FLAG! If you deny that, you're just lying to yourself.
Issues like gay marriage, gun control, and abortion rights have been used very effectively over the last three decades to split the country into two voting groups;the Conservative White Christians, against Everybody Else. Bush was able to add hating Islam for the slam dunk.
Meanwhile, the Middle class is dissappearing,and the Upper Class has grown substantially, same as the Lower Class.

Is the issue of Gay Marriage more important to you than your job? Your home? Remember the Bush vs Gore election? It was then.

How have you benefited from the two wars that we're in? Who has benefited? Follow the money.
We've got kids dying over there for the sake of contracts for corporate contributors.

It's all about M-O-N-E-Y.

How come every time I talk to a old Republican they got Medicare from the government, but do they want to get rid of it. NO!!1!. IF YOU WANT TO holler about entitlements for everyone else then drop your own government benefits first. Then you can holler as ;loud as you wont. Don't be a hypocrite. This country already has to many of them.
