First-time unemployment claims down in county

First-time unemployment claims dropped 17.7 percent between August and September in Madison County.

According to data released by the Georgia Department of Labor, initial unemployment insurance claims dropped from 243 in August to 200 in September in Madison County. There were 280 initial insurance claims in September of 2009, 28 percent more than this year’s figure for the month.

Statewide, initial unemployment insurance claims dropped by 18.7 percent between August and September, falling from 70,264 to 57,146. There were 66,614 initial unemployment insurance claims in Georgia in September 2009.
